Job Description

Sawmill Operations Trainee, Bathurst, New BrunswickWhen you join our team as a Sawmill Operations Trainee, you will participate in a structured learning plan designed to include both a formal educational component and specific hands on learning in sawmill operations. Successful candidates will complete the one-year program with a Wood Processing Associate Certificate from BCIT and with the potential to progress from this position to operational roles within Interfor #39;s sawmills.Under the guidance of the Sawmill Superintendent the Sawmill Operations Trainee will develop skills in all functional areas of sawmill operation including, production, maintenance, quality, transportation and logistics, sales and marketing, customer relations, and environmental, health and safety. Applied learning in the workplace will be supplemented with mentorship, coaching, and coursework.What You #39;ll DoSuccessful candidates will undergo comprehensive training to develop a deep understanding and gain hands-on experience in various facets of sawmill operations. Throughout this training program, you will focus on acquiring essential knowledge and skills in the following key areas:

  • Safety Leadership
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety protocols and encourage a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to promote a safety-first culture.
  • Sawmill Operation
  • Gain an overview of the sawmill operation process, including primary and secondary breakdown, as well as trimmer/sorter/stacker operations.
  • Sawmill Maintenance and Planning
  • Participate in maintenance activities and develop an understanding of sawmill machinery upkeep and repairs.
  • Assist in developing maintenance schedules and planning equipment upgrades.
  • Working at Night
  • Familiarize yourself with night shift operations.
  • Sawmill Quality Control
  • Develop an eye for quality control, ensuring that finishing products meet the required standards.
  • Collaborate with quality control teams to implement best practices.
  • Biomass and Kilns
  • Gain knowledge of biomass and kiln operations, which are essential for drying lumber and other wood products.
  • Sawmill Leadership
  • Observe and learn from experienced sawmill leaders to understand effective leadership strategies.
  • Develop skills in communication, team management, and problem-solving.
What You Offer
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Strong preference for post-secondary education degree
  • At least one year of service with Interfor is preferred.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
