Newmont was founded in 1921 and has been publicly traded since 1925.DESCRIPTION:The production geologist is part of the technical services - geology team. The incumbent is responsible for evaluating the extent, orientation and composition of mineral resources and reserves. He plans and coordinates the development of mineral zones.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Ensure the proper execution and geological control of lateral development work
  • Ensure quality control regarding sampling, geological mapping and the evaluation of production stopes
  • Interpret data and draw geological maps describing the extent and orientation of geological units, structures and ore zones
  • Calculate tonnage, ore grade and participate in profitability decisions of mine workings
  • Work with the engineering department to prepare monthly and quarterly operational forecasts
  • Ensure the planning and description of definition drilling at the mine.
  • Work with the engineering and mining operations departments to achieve minimum ore dilution in the development and production of stopes
  • Respect, know and promote company regulations and policies, particularly with regard to health and safety
  • All other related tasks
REQUIREMENTS
  • University degree in geology, geological engineering or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in geology in underground mining
  • Member of the Ordre des Géologues du Québec or Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec
  • Valid explosives permit and drivers license
  • Completed mining modules (F.M.T.M.)
  • Strong computer skills, including Vulcan, AutoCad, Promine and MS Office
  • Bilingual
