Company DescriptionAt Techo-Bloc, we aren’t just paving patios – we’re paving the way for great careers! Founded on a culture of innovation, we manufacture landscaping products focused on design, durability and flair. Our growing team is seeking passionate people, ready to make an impact. Intrigued Come grow with us.Job DescriptionTecho-Bloc’s R&D Team is growing and we are looking for a highly motivated team member with a strong work ethic and a go-getter, self-starter attitude to oversee the entire development process of new products from the initial research to prototyping phase to production. Our R&D Team loves to challenge the status quo and has a passion for success on the job - and beyond. If you have experience in the manufacturing sector and not afraid to roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, spend some time in the plants, when needed, to advance a project or help your team out, this opportunity is for you!A day in the life of an R&D Project Manager at Techo-BlocAn 8:00AM Monday in June begins with a short run through of the previous week’s objectives for the new production line that you are managing & building. You scratch off those that were completed, and you do not hesitate to get on the phone with the contractors that have not yet sent you their quotes to accelerate the process and reserve them for the date required. You then sit down with the engineers to go over some mechanical design and questions that you thought of over your weekend. Questions arise that you need to clarify with the automation department and so you hold a short 30-minute meeting with both teams. You quickly realize that you need extra motor drives that may not fit in the control panel that you ordered and will need to go into the factory to verify if a larger control panel can fit inside the electrical room. Once verified, you immediately contact the control panel manufacturer and inform him of the change and request to have a new quote to update the purchase order yourself. As you get this is out of your way, you get a call from the R&D lab technician informing you that they will be on emergency leave for the next three days. You grasp the fact that the new product your team was working on will suffer in terms of progression. This is a product that would justify yet another new production line this Winter in which you already need to start planning for, as the next six months will go by quickly. You clarify with the technician what step they were at and you decide to go to the lab to mix two batches of concrete to keep momentum in the project, since no one is around to help you. You also bring the samples from last week to the quality team for performance testing. After you’ve set the date with them from which you need the results, the maintenance manager gives you a call concerning an electrical/automation problem in the factory that he needs help from your automation specialist. You reach out to the specialists, explain the problem, obtain an understanding of the impact it will have on the timeline and objectives of your current project and decide it is reasonable. You then modify their schedule for the week and inform the R&D manager of the change that has occurred. It is now 11:00AM, you decide to make yourself a coffee and take the time to drink it while researching what your competitors are doing in Europe to plan for a discussion with the R&D manager and R&D director on the next idea of product to come out with.Intrigued Keep reading! In this role, your key responsibilities will include:
