Job Description

Network DesignerLocation: Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton, or HalifaxThe Network Designer will have primary responsibility for the analysis, design, and implementation plan of various network systems including routers, switches, firewalls, Wan Accelerators, VPN, IPS, load balancing, and logging/monitoring applications. The individual must have extensive and in-depth experience in lifecycle and capacity planning, network and security architecture, and network performance monitoring.A day in the life:When you join our Network Services team as a Network Designer, you #39;ll have your finger on the pulse of the heartbeat of every single J.D. Irving company. Working in a fast-paced Cisco environment, a day in the life could see you researching, designing, consulting with Business IT, and planning the implementation of cutting-edge networking technologies for the Irving businesses. Whether it be a process network at a Sawmill or an overhaul of technology for Kent Building Supplies, there #39;s never a dull moment.Your focus:

  • Collaborate with business IT representatives, architects, technical teams, and vendors to understand and stay ahead of the needs of end users and determine the appropriate network installation and hardware
  • Provide communication, work direction, technical guidance, and training for high complexity activities and tasks within the Network Services team
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and new technology related to networking infrastructure
  • Provide subject matter expertise as the networking resource on a wide variety of internal and customer facing technology projects, supporting organizational standards
  • Optimize existing systems related to performance and capacity and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Research, understand and design based on modern security standards
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for new and existing networking solutions
You Have:
  • Bachelor #39;s degree in computer science or a related discipline
  • 5-8+ years of network administration and operations related experience in a large, distributed environment
  • Strong technical, problem determination and resolution skills
  • A mindset for continuous improvement and passion for challenging status quo
  • Ability to describe, create and manage system documentation, script development, testing and implementation
  • Must be able to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Process driven thinking as an active participant in organizational processes including but not limited to change management, vendor management, escalation procedures, and project management
Bonus:
  • CCNA, CCNP, CCIE certifications
  • Able to obtain Government of Canada security clearances
  • Security certifications
  • ITIL Foundations certified
  • Leading Change experience
  • Lean yellow/green belt certifications (or other process improvement experience)
