  • Contract duration may change depending on projects’ completion dates.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting to the Project Management Coordinator, the Project Manager is responsible for managing various renovation projects of John Abbott College facilities over a multi-year period.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for executing multidiscipline renovation projects ranging from $100,000 to $4 million (as assigned by the Project Management Coordinator).
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of architects, engineers, technical specialists and other professionals specific to the assigned project.
  • Prepare specifications for tender, review project bid submissions to determine the best bid.
  • Follow good project management practices to initiate, plan, execute, monitor & control, and close-out multidiscipline projects.
  • Timely execution of the assigned projects and facilitate communication within an environment of academic stakeholders.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of project execution personnel to ensure the assigned projects are carried out on schedule, within the approved budget in a secure and safe manner.
  • Monitor and ensure assigned projects are in compliance with internal technical and quality guidelines and programs.
  • Evaluate project effectiveness to meet objectives, and recognize and resolve potential problems.
  • Inspect and ensure assigned projects comply with all government safety codes and regulations for safety on the construction site including ensuring that all procedures/requirements for asbestos removal/treatment established by the CSST/RBQ are met and adhered to at all times.
  • Comply with college and government regulations regarding procurement, service and construction contracts.
  • Other duties assigned by the Project Management Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:EducationBachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Building Engineering or Architecture together with a minimum of three (3) years of pertinent experienceSpecific Requirements
  • Experience in project management and execution of multi discipline building projects of $2 million
  • Ability to read and understand building plans and specifications [Architectural, Mechanical Electrical]
  • Computer skills:
    • MS Office (Intermediate Word, Intermediate Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • MS Project or equivalent experience
  • Strong organizational skills for the coordinated execution of concurrent projects
  • Ability to work autonomously within a small Project Management Office team
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiating and communication skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate project teams
  • English and French (Intermediate – oral and written)
The following qualifications are considered assets:
  • Project management training
  • PMP certification
  • In-depth knowledge of Quebec building codes and regulations;
  • Knowledge of the public tendering process;
  • Experience in building construction and methods
  • Construction site Health and Safety training and experience
  • AutoCAD knowledge
Testing may be required to demonstrate proficiency in and knowledge of the following:
  • English – Intermediate oral and written
  • French – Intermediate oral, written and comprehension
  • Word – Intermediate
  • Excel – Intermediate
