Come and be a part of this success.About PotashBHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.PurposeThe Development Superintendent will supervise the Development Mining Contractor (CG1101) in completion of the mining scope. They will work hand in hand with the contractor on a day-to-day basis to assist in planning and execution of the works and provide overall governance and responsibility in terms of administering the Authority to Mine (ATM), adherence to the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and managing underground risks. They will be responsible for ensuring the contractor works the agreed plan in a safe and effective manner to meet schedule targets, ensuring that all Planning & Technical (P&T) support provided by the IPT to complete the works is well known and executed. They will also work alongside the rest of the Underground Mining team in particular the Construction Contractor (GC1102) Superintendents to ensure the integration of the 2 contracts in terms of access to construction areas, handover of excavations and prioritizing of free issued equipment and resources within their control to ensure both contracts complete their work as planned in an effective manner. For the duration of the project this role will report within the construction organization and later transition to an Operations Supervisor once the underground area has been handed over.About the RoleIn this role, you will:

  • Instill BHP Operating Systems (BOS) principals within the contractor and their workforce
  • Ensure the ATM is adhered to for all mining activities and the appropriate change management is implemented if and when required
  • Ensure all permits are in place and adhered to for permitted works.
  • Manage underground risks and safety requirements associated with the mining scope and the mining contractor
  • Ensure contractor personal follow the necessary systems and procedures and that resources are appropriately trained and competent to perform the mining tasks
  • Provide support for the contractor with free issued equipment and liaison with OEM’s as required
  • Support Mine Rescue Team - membership preferred
  • Participate in regular contractor KPI reviews, including development and execution of actions to close gaps working with the A&I Team and the contractor
  • Identify construction issues proactively and participate in solutions to avoid them
About You (continued)
  • Ensure excavations are within design tolerance, to dimensional requirements and supported as per the GCMP prior to handover
  • Ensure Planning and Technical (Mining IPT P&T) support is in place so there are no delays to production or when timely decisions are required from the Mining IPT P&T team
  • Ensure logistics services into and out of the mine are planned and well executed and prioritization of the schedule to support all underground mining and construction scope
  • Ensure that all non-owner supplied equipment that CG1101 mobilizes to site meets BHP requirements and specifications.
  • Validate contractor planning, document, and follow day-to-day, weekly, and monthly planning
  • Interface and communicate with HSE and construction activities within areas of the mine
  • Ensure all SAP requirements for BHP and contractor equipment is adhered to and in place
  • Ensure development of operating procedures and training documents suitable for handover to Operations
  • Ensure contractors are adhering to and exhibiting Jansen core values
About You
  • Relevant experience with underground mining in Potash
  • Meet the requirements to apply for the direct supervisor certificate as designated by Saskatchewan regulations
  • Previous experience in mines rescue highly desired
  • Extensive knowledge of the Mining industry and related infrastructure and equipment for soft rock mining applications.
  • Sound experience in understanding of mine surveying, ventilation, rock mechanics/ground control and basic geological interpretation skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment utilizing agile methodologies
  • Strong safety culture with the ability to influence and motivate the entire team with BHP and the project safety objectives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various stakeholder groups
  • Motivate themselves and peers to promote and engage in team building and relationship building activities
