A continued emphasis on the development of a representative workforce is one of Sask Polytech’s strategic priorities and, as an organization, we are making significant efforts to attract and retain Indigenous employees.Job Duties/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities(QSA)Job DutiesJob DutiesDuties:The mental health and addictions counseling program is a hybrid educational program with synchronous zoom requirements (lectures, case studies, group activities, interactive small group activities, assessments), asynchronous study requirements, on-campus residencies/counselling labs, and preceptored practice educational opportunities. Duties of this position include:1. Provide instruction and facilitate interactive practical experiences for students in the Mental Health and Addictions Counselling Diploma program;2. Knowledgeable in current models/modes of care for those with addictions including motivational interviewing, building trust relationships, pharmacology and psychobiology of addictions, etiology of addictions, trauma informed care, harm reduction, detoxification, family systems, case file management, recovery planning and culturally responsive care;3. Flexible and responsive to learner needs using appropriate instructional methodologies in a blended learning environment;4. Manage the virtual learning environment by providing student support and counselling to facilitate student success and an optimal educational experience;5. Prepare and deliver lessons, assignments, lectures and demonstrations for educational purposes;6. Evaluate student progress (using exams, assignments, observations, discussion forums, etc.) using the required learning platform (Brightspace);7. Participate in the development, maintenance and revision of curriculum as required within the learning platform (Brightspace).8. Regularly maintain and update all curriculum and materials for courses assigned to you;9. Supervise students in classroom (virtual), residencies/labs, preceptored applied learning in workplaces/clinical settings, etc.;10. Prioritize a psychologically safe educational setting for all learners;11. Engage in professional development opportunities to keep current with employer, CCSA/CACCF, and educational requirement; and12. Must be available for on-site activities held at Sask Polytech campuses. (Travel within Saskatchewan reimbursed).QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCESpecific AccountabilitiesDutiesRequired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)1. Undergraduate degree in Addictions or in a related field with an emphasis on mental health and addictions.2. Eligible for certification with the CACCF (Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation) or other mental health and addictions professional association.3. Minimum of two years recent and relevant counselling/teaching experience in the specialty area of addictions counselling and mental health.4. Excellent communication skills (oral and written).5. Effective interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills.6. Effective instructional ability.7. Demonstrated competence and recent experience supporting students through online course delivery, instruction, and development (i.e. Zoom, Desire2Learn/Brightspace or other online education platforms).8. Ability to apply the current theories and models of care for mental health and addictions counselling and the principles of adult education.9. Small group facilitation skills and leading, modeling and teaching interaction skills.10. Ability to arrange, maintain and evaluate resources.11. Demonstrates valuing diversity.12. Understanding of and ability to practice utilizing academic integrity guidelines.13. Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.14.
