Job Description

Cameco welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, abilities, and experiences to apply.Position and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Senior Engineer, Mine, you will be responsible for the planning and monitoring of ground freezing systems used to isolate underground mining areas from water infiltration. Additionally, you will be monitoring progress of freeze drilling and brine distirbution construction, and contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the underground freeze system.With safety as your core value, you will focus on high quality results and provide input to:

  • Produce reliable ground freeze designs, with risks and opportunities identified to improve safety and economics.
  • Stakeholder engagement across the site, including Mine Engineering, Geology, Mine Operations, Process, and Maintenance. Liaise with Corporate Technical Services for technical support and for peer reviews.
  • Contribute to optimization of freeze drilling designs for new mining zones to account for access development, infrastructure placement, and drill setup to ensure practicality of designs.
  • Ensure delivery of work packages for constructing brine distribution systems and flow/temperature monitoring systems to service the freeze holes and monitor insitu ground temperatures.
  • Act as liaison for site stakeholders with brine distribution design and construction teams to ensure constructability of these work packages.
  • Contribute to CNSC submissions and Life of Asset freeze infrastructure planning for new mining zones.
  • Monitoring and reporting from the ground temperature monitoring system and freeze hole status system.
  • Ensure verification of modelled vs actual ground freeze performance to confirm a closely calibrated thermal model for optimization of future freeze designs.
  • Work with Process department on inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting for underground freeze systems to ensure optimal performance. Set and communicate coolant temperature and flow targets.
  • Communication of freeze plans and monitoring results with other site departments is key.
Education and QualificationsRequirements of the position:
  • Diploma as a Technologist in Mechanical or Mining Engineering or related field
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
  • A minimum of three years of relevant freeze technology experience
  • Proficient in MS Office and 3D design software (Vulcan/AutoCAD)
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills in a field environment and attention to detail
  • Good 3D visualization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to build and maintain a good communication network with all stakeholders
  • Self-starter with strong communication and presentation skills
Assets:
  • Experience in mine engineering functions in an underground mine environment
  • Knowledge of mine design software, SQL databases, OSI PI Vison, Pump and Hydro flow modelling software, COMSOL or other finite element 2D and 3D modelling software
  • Experience in design of piping and pumping systems
  • TSASK certification as a Refrigeration Engineer
