Job Description

Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our eight Career Centres across the province. You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe Coordinator, Career Services, is responsible for the development and delivery of career services programs that meet the needs of First Nations. The position involves engagement with community stakeholders, internal stakeholders, and employers to deliver successful programs and services. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT #39;s vision, mission, and mandate.General AccountabilityThe Coordinator, Career Services will take a lead role in leading a team of individuals who specialize in career development practices ranging from case management, career assessment, life skills, planning, skill training, and facilitating clients in finding employment through career related programs and services. This position will regularly engage with SIIT employees, First Nation communities, ISET Program holders, and employers to promote the work of EDCS and create mutually beneficial partnerships across the province. Specific AccountabilitiesThe Coordinator, Career Services will develop and deploy strategies related to career services through community, employers, and related businesses. This position is responsible for the coordination of programs from start to finish. This position is required to seek out new program opportunities, as well as, in collaboration with the Director, identify the need to modify current programs and services in order to meet the needs of the clients and communities. This position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:Coordinationamp; Monitoring

  • Identify, initiate, and support the coordination of programs
  • Assist in the monitoring of training programs
  • Ensure the training program meets the needs of the Band/Tribal Councils and stakeholders
  • Ensure the program is on schedule and curriculum components are delivered
  • Work closely with relevant personnel and departments to ensure smooth operations, including calendar planning, internal and external evaluations, and joint workshop initiatives for facilitators
  • Ensure project goals are achieved as per agreements
  • Moderate travel to various First Nation communities and events
  • Keep up-to-date on trends in the labour market and the economic climate and requirements and qualifications for different occupations
Partneringamp; Reporting
  • Build relationships and engage with Bands, Tribal Councils, training and employment agencies, and other relevant stakeholders, to effectively build programs and services that meet their needs and strengthen their linkages SIIT
  • Develop contracts and budgets with outside stakeholders for programs and services
  • Investigate and report on potential external relationships and opportunities including partnerships that could benefit the department
  • Contribute to SIIT #39;s strategic effectiveness by representing and participating on internal and external committees
  • Prepare, provide updates, and submit regular reporting
Resource Allocation
  • Develop and monitor budgets for all programs, ensuring sufficient resources are available to deliver the training
  • Approve all contracts prior to the commencement of the training
  • Authorize purchase orders pertaining to the programs
  • Approve and authorize invoices and expenses for payment
People Managementamp; Client Focus
  • Coach, train and develop employees to ensure growth and development of those individuals
  • Conduct regular reviews with direct reports; ensure adherence to SIIT policies and procedures
  • Ensure a positive, diverse, inclusive work and learning environment
  • Assist in building and leading the department through employee recruitment and selection
  • Implement and monitor effective client retention strategies
  • Monitor client attendance, report as required, and implement disciplinary action where SIIT policy
  • Work collaboratively with administration, and facilitators to provide support services and cultural activities for students
Required Qualifications and Experience: A degree or diploma in social sciences discipline, business or related field is preferred. A minimum of 4 years work experience in a related field of training and employment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including online applications) of programs is required. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations are considered assets. Incumbent must have a valid driver #39;s license and reliable vehicle as moderate travel is required.As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT #39;s Alcohol and Substances policy.
