Job Description

Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centres across the province. You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe Job Coach serves a key role in supporting clients by bridging employment barriers as they work toward finding employment. Job Coaches understand the culture of the industry or sector they specialize in and are able to help clients transition into a new working environment as well as help employers understand the specific needs of new workers. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT #39;s vision, mission, and mandate.General AccountabilityThe Job Coach is responsible for working with clients to provide information and support in career planning, skills training, and employment or educational goals. The Job Coach is required to follow-up with clients and employers, and to collaborate with other departments within the Institute to ensure client success. A Job Coach is the link between employers and workers and supports both employers and new workers to develop long-term careers.Specific AccountabilitiesThis position involves providing job coaching to SIIT clients, as well as developing and maintaining relationships with employers across the province to create, maximize and provide opportunities for clients. The Job Coach is required to take a lead role in career and skill assessment, career coaching and development, individualized career planning, and support to individuals to obtain and maintain employment. The incumbent will assist with developing or enhancing job skills, resume writing, and job searches in communities across the province. This position follows-up with existing SIIT clients, updating databases, generating reports and performs other administrative duties for the department. This position provides additional support as required and includes the following broad range of accountabilities:Client Service

  • Provide confidential one on one coaching and personal consultation for clients by discussing their aspirations and assisting them in creating short and long term career, or training goals; as well, as a comprehensive plan to reach those goals, including the development of employability skills
  • Assist clients to discover and overcome their personal barriers and set goals; provide advice, motivation, and direction to clients regarding employment and training that is aligned with their skill set and training or career plan
  • Plan and facilitate information sharing sessions related to student employability; interview preparedness, resume writing, basic work and business etiquette
Relationship Development
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers in both private and public sectors and First Nations across the Province
  • Coordinate with existing and prospective industry and community partners to build relationships geared towards the creation of potential employment opportunities and/or work placements for SIIT clients
  • Identify employers #39; needs relating to the potential position(s) for client placement
Reporting, Complianceamp; Administration
  • Assist and support department requirements by preparing and submitting reports, and providing additional support as necessary
  • Ensure strict confidentiality and privacy of information as it relates to clients, employers, the Institute, and other third parties
  • Maintain and research current statistical data on employment opportunities for clients
Required Qualifications and Experience: A post-secondary degree or diploma in the human service field or closely related field. Experience in the industrial trades as a journeyperson will be considered an asset. A minimum of two years #39; experience in career services, employment staffing, out placement services or human resources experience is required. Experience in career advising and/or counseling as well as case management is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset. Incumbent must have a valid driver #39;s license and reliable transportation as travel may be required.As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT #39;s Alcohol and Substances policy.Required Competencies: Flexible and Adaptable, Effective Communication, Relationship Building, Results Oriented, Client Focus or Service, Teamwork, Problem Solving, Partnering.
