Job Description

Professional Skills Coordinator, FUSION LeadCareer Services empowers students to achieve career success by leading, guiding, and partnering to advance career education at the University of Saskatchewan. Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to lead and manage the Future Skills Innovation Network (FUSION) project at USask and thereby advance USask Student Competencies. The Professional Skills Coordinator, FUSION Lead will strengthen and grow relationships within the institution and across the FUSION collaborative, contributing to the advancement of national FUSION objectives. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to advancing USask Student Competencies institutionally, analyzing the needs of students, units, departments, and groups while developing, connecting and/or contributing to skills development programming and initiatives. This position reports to the Director, Career Services. Any Graduate Teaching Assistant(s) supporting the FUSION work would report to the Professional Skills Coordinator, FUSION Lead. Nature of Work: A pan-Canadian network of universities and industry employer organizations, FUSION’s goal is to design and implement training to support the skills development critical for success in the 21st century labour market, with a particular focus on engaging and supporting underrepresented groups. The Professional Skills Coordinator, FUSION Lead will work to create interest, identify opportunities for partnership and innovation, build relationships, and provide program development support across the institution to improve the quality of student learning experiences and advance USask Student Competency development. The incumbent will collaborate with colleagues in varying academic and administrative roles, work in partnership with other service units across the institution, collaborate across and contribute to the FUSION collaborative, and advance USask Student Competencies institutionally. Accountabilities:Overseeing the organization and advancement of USask’s FUSION work including:Ensuring that efforts align with and advance intended FUSION objectives and outcomes, whilst balancing USask’s priorities and unique teaching and learning context. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships to foster innovation across the FUSION network, and with industry partners, student groups, academic and student support units. Working alongside the National Director and partnering FUSION institutions and serving as the operational liaison to the network. Leading USask FUSION initiatives, resources and programming including planning, design, development, implementation, and assessment. Ensuring all reporting and evaluation requirements are completed in a timely fashion and submitted to the National Director according to FUSION program requirements. Contributing to the management of USask FUSION funds.Contributing to the advancement of USask Student Competencies by working in partnership with the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning (GMCTL) to determine and develop clear strategic direction, mutually beneficial partnerships, innovative programming, sound implementation plans, and strong outcome and assessment strategies. Developing a strong practical and theoretical knowledge of skills development and sharing expertise within Career Services and across the institution. Contributing to conversations and initiatives to create and foster an institutional culture that values, supports and promotes skill development, experiential learning, career education and student career success. Working alongside Career Services’ Events and Communication Specialist to develop and maintain appropriate marketing, social media promotions, and web content related to their areas of oversight. Undertaking personal and professional development activities to advance expertise in skill development and career education. Undertaking other activities, as may be delegated from time to time, in support of Career Services and Teaching, Learning and Student Experience (TLSE) goals and priorities. Assisting with day-to-day front-line interactions when necessary.Education: An undergraduate degree is required with a graduate degree strongly preferred. Experience:3-5 years of directly related experience with a demonstrated progression in level of responsibilities is essential. Project management, organization of complex projects, and/or program development is essential. Experience with experiential learning and/or developing students’ skills through curricular and co-curricular activities in higher education is preferred. A strong understanding of the unique needs of diverse learners including international, Indigenous, LGBTQ2S+, graduate students, and students with disabilities is preferred. Knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan and familiarity with Career Services is an asset.Skills:Demonstrated ability to operate independently and as part of a team, to work comfortably with senior administrators, faculty members and academic staff to develop and achieve shared goals. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, proven initiative and organizational skills, and ability to adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, the capacity to build consensus and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, the ability to exercise diplomacy, judgment, and tact, and to act confidentially and with ethical standards and cultural sensitivity. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
