Job Description

Position Description:At a GlanceLegrand has an exciting opportunity for a Buyer to join the Solarfective Team in Scarborough, ON. The Buyer is responsible for planning, directing and managing resources to support MRP schedules. In addition, the Buyer monitors the product/program/project from initiation through delivery. Organizes interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the product/program/project on schedule and within product cost targets.What Will You Do1. Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives, as well as an understanding of company systems and tools.2. Develops and maintains strong value add relationships with suppliers. Monitors supplier capacities for assigned commodities to ensure no unexpected capacity constraints occur. Conducts frequent meetings with critical suppliers to ensure that open issues areadequately resolved, visits supplier sites as necessary to maintain the business relationship. Ensures supplier scorecards are documented and reviewed with key suppliers on a regular basis and drives supplier corrective actions.3. Implements strategic policies in source selection, single source and outsource decisions.4. Reviews overdue purchase orders; contacts suppliers to establish revised dates and updates the ERP. Notifies appropriate departments of any significant delays.5. Establishes and assures adherence product cost targets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements.6. Monitors systemic problems with supply base concerning quality and delivery to gain correction action.7. Accurately schedules production of manufactured goods, working closely with production supervisors, distribution, and customer service to satisfy customer demand.8. Maintains exception report and close communication with Inside Sales/Customer Service.9. Supports Kaizen and lean enterprise efforts to attain improvement objectives and special projects (such as process improvements, system upgrades, etc.)Qualifications:Required Skills:

  • Education: Bachelors degree with CPM and/or CPIM, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 5-7 years’ experience in purchasing and material planning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Requires strong organizational and time management skills and close attention to detail.Able to effectively manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to new opportunities in a fast-paced environment.Must be proficient in negotiation and influencing skills.Exceptional computer skills, extensive knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data base software, proficiency with various e-mail, calendaring, meeting management and related communications software.Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment.Must have strong analytical skills and proven ability to effectively research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based upon analysis.Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.Demonstrates ethical behavior as a sourcing professional.Additional Requirements:
  • Hands-on experience with JD Edwards (JDE)
  • Hands-on experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
  • Six Sigma/DMAIC knowledge/application is a plus
  • Maintain demand stream and system parameter aspects of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Perform Rough Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP) from S&OP outputs (production and inventory plans)
  • Prepare material schedules and plans.
  • Ensure all schedules are aligned to meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure material availability (components and final assemblies) for designated areas.
  • Recommend order policy type including but not limited to Make to Order (MTO) and Make to Stock (MTS)
  • Analyze inventory levels and determine actions to either reduce or increase levels.
  • Operate within various Company Business Operating systems.
