Job Description

PORTA is an authentic Italian manufacturer of artisanal, ready-to-cook frozen meals. We produce restaurant-quality dishes using only the finest Italian and locally sourced ingredients, traditional recipes and a very simple cooking process that takes less than 15-minutes. PORTA currently offers a range of frozen pizzas, pasta kits, raviolis, desserts, pastries, and risotto. We distribute Direct-to-Consumer in more than 50 cities through a meal subscription at http://www.eatporta.com and are also available in almost 100 specialty and grocery stores. PORTA is a venture-backed food-tech company that is led by a team of experienced entrepreneurs, culinary geniuses, and brand builders. The RolePorta is looking for a hands-on and driven Dessert Production Supervisor to join the team.Reporting to the Culinary Manager, and VP, Operations, you will ensure that PORTA’s recipes are produced to exact specifications, on time and as directed.In this role, you will need to have the ability to take ownership for facility assets, production / processamp; packaging assetsamp; give direction / work effectively with employees and suppliers. It will have direct reports in future as asset base grows and multiple shifts operate – needs to be an effective people leader and possess technical capability with ability to teach. Responsibilities:

  • Vision, Missionamp; Values:champion for PORTA vision, mission, and values, puts values in action and inspires others to do the same
  • Protecting the integrity of all current and future recipes and procedures
  • Ensure proper ordering and inventory of related food products
  • Kitchen organization and cleanliness meets and exceeds PORTA standards
  • Maintain health and safety standards at all times
  • Collect and ensure the accuracy of daily production, labor, yield, and other KPI data reports.
  • Drive a strong sense of responsibility and accountability for individual and team performance.
  • Ensure team compliance with company policies, proceduresamp; GMP’s
  • Drive employee engagement, training, and development in the key areas of food safety, employee safety, product quality, and productivity.
  • Establishamp; execute quarterly objectives against pre-determined KPIs
  • Enforce all dept Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensure that all quality standards, specifications, and policies are developed and met, Drive continuous process/manufacturing improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Culinary team in product development and new product launches.
  • Maintain a team environment and high employee morale
  • Display and demand professional conduct at all times
  • Develop a culture based on open/honest dialogue and involvement with all team members that demonstrates the value of their input and engagement in improving performance.
  • Takes personal responsibility for the work safety of his/her team(s).
Requirements
  • Strong understanding of large batch baking and dessert production
  • 5 + years’ experience as a leader in a kitchen / production kitchen
  • Culinary Degree in Dessert/Pastry Arts is an asset
  • Organized, critical thinker with excellent communication ability
  • Strong work ethic with meticulous attention to detail and a “can do” attitude
  • Ability to collaborate with various cross-functional partners (production, QA)
  • Proactive and conscientious – able to identify and anticipate compliance gaps and recommend creative and practical solutions
  • Schedule flexibility – able to be on call as needed for emergency situations
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic company environment
