Subsidiary: Miller Paving LimitedAbout Miller MaintenanceMiller Maintenance, a division of Miller Paving Limited, proudly provides maintenance services on Maintenance Contracts for the Ministry of Transportation throughout the province of Ontario. Our leadership in the Ontario road and highway maintenance industry is based on our commitment to continuous improvement through education, innovation, safety, and training.What Does A Foreperson DoThe Foreperson will work with the field maintenance staff and subcontractors to ensure complete compliance with the Ministry Directed Maintenance Contract. The Foreperson is responsible for quality control of maintenance being completed with a focus on training and development of the maintenance team.As a Foreperson, You Will:

  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) polices and ensure contractual Health, Safety and Environmental obligations for the staff and public are met
  • Provide leadership to the team and be a positive role model
  • Ensure safety meetings are completed, employees are prepared and understand the work plan (including Job Hazard Analysis and Traffic Control Plans),
  • Review and approve daily work records, time sheets, fuel logs, and all other documents for completion and accuracy
  • Provide effective supervision and support to employees and sub-contractors during operations ensuring work completed meets and/or exceeds quality standards/specifications as outlined in the maintenance contract
  • Manage the performance of staff and subcontractors
  • Ensure equipment is clean and maintained, schedule routine maintenance, and ensure equipment is well kept and safe for operation
  • Support client in planning and prioritization of work, including identifying extra work and Capital Improvement items
  • Monitor costs, understand cost allocation across different performance requirements of the contract and identify ways to control costs
  • Perform maintenance duties on highway infrastructures, as outlined in the contract Maintenance Special Provisions
  • Assist with investigations and respond to inquiries from the public, external agencies, and liaise with the area supervisor to resolve problems
  • Participate in winter operations where needed – including but not limited to, filling in for Emergency Response during inclement weather or by operating combination units and other snow removal equipment
  • Identify training needs for staff, coordinate and facilitate the training as needed
  • Aid Emergency Response team to implement an emergency plan in situations such as spills, accidents, inclement weather, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a housekeeping and yard maintenance plan for staff
  • Other duties as required
What You’ll Bring:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the highway maintenance and/or road construction industry will be an asset
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the applicable OH&S legislations, MTO standard, and Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 traffic control, considered an asset
  • 3+ years leadership experience in effectively delegating tasks, training, and managing a team
  • Must maintain a valid Class D commercial license with air brake endorsement (Z)
  • Superb interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Heavy Job, etc.)
  • Willingness to work assigned days, nights and weekend shifts as required
