Requisition ID: 137478Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.The team:Scotiabank’s Global Technology Services’ Cloud Ops and DevOps - Application & Middleware Operations Support team (GTS-CODO-AMOPS) is a unique area, which spans the bridge between infrastructure `delivery, development/project support and providing production services, including design and maintenance.The role:You will be accountable for the effective analysis, design and development of middleware products & environment for very complex solutions. This includes the support and enhancement to vendor supplied or Bank developed software and utilities.This role has rotational support to ensure coverage, 7 days a week, including weekends, and all banking or statutory holidays. When necessary, there is also pager support.Is this role right for you

  • You are ready & eager to provide advanced technical expertise on projects and be able to exploit to the fullest, processes and tools.
  • You are capable to work on very complex projects independently that requires advanced expertise in complex technologies/diverse technical processes.
  • You will have the opportunity to implement and support very complex middleware (mainly IBM Websphere Application Server ND/Liberty, but some Apache Tomcat, RedHat JBoss as well) components for Business applications. This includes evaluating problems, identifying actions to be taken and recommend/implement solutions for both the short term (symptom i.e., temporary fix) & long term (root cause i.e., permanent fix) resolution. You can expect to resolve Level 2 and some Level 3 problems independently or by coordinating resolution with software vendors, hardware manufacturers and/or in-house owners.
  • You thrive on providing internal consulting services for technology platform and business application support teams, as it relates to technical design/implementation or resolving issues.
  • There’s a great deal of satisfaction in automating low-level middleware configuration & operations tasks with BMC, Ansible and similar automation tools, as well as scripting languages.
  • You excel at preparing design specifications; developing programs, change control, release preparation; reviewing work products developed by other team members for accuracy and functionality; developing the required systems and operations documentation; and establish a test strategy.
  • You strive to ensure all information security directives are adhered to, specifically servers scanning scores (e.g., CCM and IP360 scores) are held within the required range to positively contribute to overall SRI index.
  • It’s a part of your DNA to ensure timely completion of all assigned administration accountabilities: e.g., Status reports, time reporting, development plans, setting objectives, performance appraisals, etc… And, this extends to ensuring that all enterprise productivity & administrative tools / platforms (e.g. me@scotiabank, EPM, CMDB) are kept accurate and up to date and all managed technology is maintained in accordance with established standards.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role
  • You have strong communication (verbal/written) skills in English to deliver proposals, provide consultation to development staff and interact with diverse user groups from clerical to senior management level. The same in Spanish is an asset.
  • You can demonstrate technical working experience with Middleware administration & architecture.
  • You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the design, deployment & administration of IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) v.8/9 Network Deployment (ND) & WAS Liberty Profile.
  • You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the design, deployment & administration of WebSphere Portal Server / IBM Websphere Process Server & the Apache HTTP Server.
  • You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience with automation scripting & support for middleware & application release configuration via the use of scripting languages (e.g., korn and/or bash and/or python and/or jython and/or javascript).
  • You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the systems administration of AIX v7.x.
  • You have at least 1+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the systems administration of Linux v7/8.
  • You can demonstrate hands-on technical working experience in providing ad-hoc architectural & technical guidance to Application Development and, as well, Service Management and Delivery teams.
  • You are functionally competent in the use of standard office productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Tools, Agile Planning tools such as Atlassian Jira/Confluence and similar).
  • You possess working knowledge of Project Management, Risk Management and Change/Problem Management skills and tools (Such as Service Now).
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or Engineering or in a related field of study.
