Job Description

Viking is seeking an experienced Estimating and Sourcing Specialist to join the Supply Chain department in Victoria.Viking Air Limited (a subsidiary of Longview Aviation Capital) is the global leader in utility aircraft services and manufacturer of Series 400 and Guardian 400 Twin Otter Aircraft. In 2020, Viking celebrated their 50th anniversary. Viking is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Type Certificate holder for all out-of-production De Havilland Canada aircraft and the Canadair Amphibious Aerial Firefighting aircraft fleet.Longview Aviation Capital, through its subsidiaries, holds the Type Certificates for the entire original product line of the De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Company. Together these companies continue to make strides in manufacturing and modernizing versatile, fuel efficient and environmentally responsible turboprop aircraft for use around the world.SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:The primary purpose of the Estimating and Sourcing Specialist is to:

  • Be accountable for establishing a reliable source of supply for production supply chain requirements both Purchase complete and or subcontract services. The Specialist will act as the primary point of contact between Viking and Viking vendors and will embrace and follow both Customer Support and Supply Chain standard work and best practices.
  • Be accountable for establishing an accurate part estimate for products, projects, or services, applying manufacturing principals, concepts, industry practices and standards to determine unit costs and set unit price in accordance with guidelines set by the Supply Chain Manager.
  • Place active demand and or part number creation in the ERP system for fabricated and or purchase parts as required and assist other departments within Viking with estimating activities and identifying obsolete/out of production part issues in support of company initiatives and serviceability of the worldwide fleet.
  • Receive purchasing agent training for Supply Chain coverage and or project-based purchases.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSABILITES:
  • Estimating
    • Analyze data to determine standard labor, material, service, and burden costs. It may involve submitting RFQs to approved vendors to manufacture parts complete or carry out single or multiple manufacturing processes.
    • Consult with manufacturing cells or other individuals as necessary to formulate estimates and set unit price in accordance with guidelines set by SOP / Work Instructions related to supply chain.
    • Develop Quote Masters and or complete Visual Quotations that detail all research data including material, labor, subcontract, and manufacturing costs. Identify current or pending fleet obsolete / out of production part issues and contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to mitigate. Part number creation may be required if estimated part does not have a Visual Part ID.
  • Sourcing
    • Identify sources of supply for purchased components and or subcontract services required to support production Supply chains needs with cost and schedule requirements. In collaboration with supply chain department, work to secure supply under contracts to best suit Vikings business needs. Review and action of Estimating Quote log.
    • Analyze vendor quotations for procured details to evaluate the cost benefit analysis. As required, advise the CSR team on availability, lead time and price as requested for purchased components
    • In collaboration with Document Control, Tooling department and Engineering ensure that technical data and tooling exist to manufacture any parts not previously manufactured and estimation requested
    • Strive to develop and optimize supply situations that reduce BOM costs
    • Utilize the make-buy process as a potential solution to maintain PPV.
    • Engage in supply chain best practices through supplier rationalization and securing pricing under contracts with supply chain department.
    • Support Supply Chain department as required based on direction from the supply chain manager.
  • Sourcing projects
    • In collaboration with Engineering and Technical support identify current or pending obsolete / out of production part issues and contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to mitigate. Carry out strategic sourcing projects for the provision of aircraft parts and services.
  • Strategic sourcing and risk assessment
    • Assist with annual supplier risk assessment, develop risk mitigation strategies, and carry out actions in accordance with supply chain best practices. Engage in supplier rationalization activities.
  • Continuous improvement
    • Actively participate in R2E program. Understand metrics that measure key performance parameters. Strive to achieve world class levels of customer service and supply chain in every interaction with our customers and or Vendors.
EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelors degree from a recognized college or university and three (3) to six (6) or more years related experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Competence in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate and document information using a computer and required software.
  • Ability to manage and act on multiple projects and priorities at one time.
  • Ability to work effectively either independently or with others on flexible work assignments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires the ability to walk, stand and sit for long periods of time. Eyesight must be sufficient to be able to read fine print and blueprint details.Quick Apply
