The SHOAL Community Centre in thebeautiful seaside town of Sidney, utilizes a multi-dimensional approach in the provision ofcommunity services by combining recreation, volunteer services and food services. The Centrealso is home to residents in Assisted Living and Independent Living units. The Food ServiceWorker joins the hospitality team performing a variety of food service duties and assists kitchenstaff as needed.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain a safe and supportive work environment for volunteers, members, residents,and community members Ability to work independently and within a team Setting up dining areas, delivering and putting away supplies, taking meal orders andserving food and beverages Accepts payment for meals and/or initials Dinner and/or Lunch meal cards Performs limited food preparation and makes tea and coffee Washes dishes using commercial dishwasher and/or by hand Performs cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks andcounters, cleaning kitchen and storage areas and removing garbage Maintains cleanliness and order in walk in cooler and freezer. Checks that temperatureis in the appropriate range and reports issues to Manager. Stores and checks supplies and performs inventory control including rotation andexpiry checks Performs other related duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS: Grade 12 diploma or equivalent experience WHMIS Certificate Serving it Right (completion upon hiring) Foodsafe Certification (completion upon hiring and renewed every 3 years) First Aid and CPR certification an assetKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Experience in a customer service environment Experience within a senior’s facility or experience in a related setting is an asset Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with residents, families,co-workers, members of the multi-disciplinary team and the public Ability to organize work and implement in a timely mannerADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Beacon Community Services serves vulnerable populations including seniors, people withdisabilities and children.
