Job Description

Job Title: General MaintenanceReports To:Senior Manager OperationsOverall Mandate: Support all staff to contribute to the efficiency of the production line and the effectiveness of the food safety management system. Complete preventative maintenance on plant machinery and buildings as required. Report to various areas of the packline/facility as needed to deal with malfunctions, breakdowns, and issues as they arise. Know when to escalate an issue and involve other members of the maintenance or management team. Delivery driving and Food Terminal inspection runs as needed. Core Competencies Supporting the Overall Mandate: Leadership:

  • Work with the other members of the maintenance team to prioritize tasks and work towards common goals and productive outcomes.
Communication:
  • Follow direction from Operations Coordinator and Head of Maintenance with clear reporting on task progress with Management.
Organization:
  • Organizing and meeting with contractors as services are required throughout the operation. Purchasing and procurement of supplies as needed.
Problem Solving:
  • Work with the other members of the maintenance team to prioritize tasks and work towards common goals and productive outcomes. Ability to look at the cause and effect of a problem or mechanical failure within a chain of events.Recognize the impact that a breakdown to one element or piece of equipment has on the surrounding elements of the line.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate, monitor, control process systems for water, air, various gases, water treatments, heating, cooling, ventilation, gas monitoring.
  • Perform or schedule, preventative or routine emergency maintenance of equipment to maintain optimal reliability and efficiency.
  • Working in compliance with safety and food handling regulations.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections as required.
  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs as required in a timely basis.
  • Complete or assist in retrofit and new project installations as required.
  • Ensure all tools and cleaning equipment are maintained and serviced regularly.
Accountability:Rotating schedule based on packline needs and staffing requirements for Maintenance presence on the packline. Some weekend work – rotational on-call schedule with other maintenance staff may be required. Delivery Driving will be balanced within the schedule.Education and Experience:
  • General mechanical maintenance experience in an asset.
  • Will be required to obtain a B Class Refrigeration Certificate within time-line determined by Management.
  • Training will be provided.
Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to think on your feet – respond to packline issues as they arise and solve them in a timely manner with minimal disruption to the packing operation through the direction of the Operations Coordinator.Does so while working within the constraints of the food safety program.
  • Prioritizing –ability to determine which issues need immediate attention in order to maintain fruit quality and packing efficiency.Ability to determine an appropriate temporary fix in the absence of a timely long-term fix.
  • General mechanical skills – fabrication, repair, general construction.Understanding of and ability to work with computerized machinery and robotics.Experience in refrigeration an asset.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling and climbing.
  • Must be able to lift or move items over 22.5Kg (50lbs), and work indoors and/or outdoors.
