Closing Date: January 3, 2024This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of passionate professionals and work with Teck’s Active Water Treatment technology, which represents some of the most advanced selenium and nitrate removal technology in the world. This position will be part of a team of hard-working professionals in a growing and technically exciting field working towards achieving the objectives of Teck’s Elk Valley Water Quality Plan! Reporting to the Senior Lead, Environment Water Treatment, the Lead, Environment Water Treatment is responsible for providing day to day environmental and regulatory risk management support for the operations of the Fording River Operations – South Active Water Treatment Facility (FRO- S AWTF). You will work along side a diverse and highly proficient team to manage environmental risks and satisfy regulatory requirements associated with the FRO- S AWTF, as well as, support the implementation of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan at an operational level.To be successful, we are looking for an adaptable professional with strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and decision-making skills. Someone who can build positive relationships and demonstrate diligence, integrity, and environmental leadership while prioritizing demands in a fast-paced environment. Most importantly, we require an individual with strong technical writing, presenting, data analysis, and reporting skills, who can identify and understand regulatory and environmental risks and work towards developing practical solutions. Working a compressed work week with alternating Fridays off, come experience what work life balance is all about!Responsibilities: Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policy and procedures Provide operational decision making and technical direction for compliance, and environmental and regulatory risks Identify emerging issues and drive resolutions to mitigate regulatory and environmental risks Provide leadership in regulatory engagement, compliance, risk identification, risk management, and incident response Support the development, review, and implementation of site specific compliance, operational and management plans, best management practices and procedures, environmental monitoring programs, and data management systems Prepare and submit data and reports to meet regulatory commitments Communicate data in a clear and understandable format suitable for intended audiences to advise and gain resolution to issues or challenges regarding treatment operations, permitting, and water management Supervise Environmental Coordinators and Technicians; provide mentorship, support, guidance, and development to increase team expertise and drive continuous improvement Understand applicable commitments, permits and associated requirements to advise management decisions and actions Develop and provide environmental training to operations teamsQualifications: Degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or other related field, or a relevant combination of education and experience Provide operational decision making and technical direction for compliance, and environmental and regulatory risks Identify emerging issues and drive resolutions to mitigate regulatory and environmental risks Provide leadership in regulatory engagement, compliance, risk identification, risk management, and incident response Support the development, review, and implementation of site specific compliance, operational and management plans, best management practices and procedures, environmental monitoring programs, and data management systems Prepare and submit data and reports to meet regulatory commitments Communicate data in a clear and understandable format suitable for intended audiences to advise and gain resolution to issues or challenges regarding treatment operations, permitting, and water management Supervise Environmental Coordinators and Technicians; provide mentorship, support, guidance, and development to increase team expertise and drive continuous improvement Understand applicable commitments, permits and associated requirements to advise management decisions and actions Develop and provide environmental training to operations teamsBenefits:Teck employees receive a competitive compensation package that includes, but is not limited to, base salary plus the following benefits:Two Annual Bonus Plans Comprehensive Benefits Plan Retirement Package Employee Share Purchase Plan Health Lifestyle AccountSalary Range: $101,000 - $125,000The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.About TeckAt Teck, we value diversity.
