Job Description

Reports to: EIS Program DirectorResponsibilities: 1. Client Management: a. Assist immigrants with employment preparation services such as resume preparation, interview techniques, job search skills, etc.b. Build rapport with immigrants, identifying their employment skills and abilities.c. Work with the EIS Program Director, Settlement Workers, Integration Coordinator to ensure clients have access to all services offered by EIS.d. Partner with Eastman Immigrant Region Partnership Coordinator and Director of Employment Development to establish initiatives set out the by the project, such as but not limited to, labor force needs and assessments, skilled trade assessment and education opportunities, employer and community driven initiatives, Temporary Foreign Workerse. Identify and promote learning and educational opportunities available in the community.f. Establish and foster relationships with local employers. Observe hiring patterns, types of employees required, skills and work attitudes expected, and training requirements.g. Act as a referral service for immigrant clients that are seeking employment.h. Answer business inquiries relative to job opening criteria.i. Post and maintain a job board at the EIS office and EIS websitej. Promote all programs and services offered by EIS to each client.2. Community Liaison: a. Make on-site contact to 12 existing employers and 5 new employers annually; developing partnerships with local employers to identify labor market needs and marketing of clientsb. Connect with Steinbach Chamber of Commerce businesses to identify employers who are looking for employees. Visit new businesses.c. Act as a referral service for immigrant clients seeking employment or language classesd. Provide group information sessions as needed to EIS English 4 Work classes or client workshops (students, clients)3. Administration:

  • Provide a written monthly summary of activities, observations, trends, successes and challenges to the Program Director.
  • Provide feedback on potential future programs and services.
  • Utilize the program software provided by Employment Manitoba to manage client contact information.
  • Undertake specific tasks relative to minor office maintenance.
  • Provide client statistics to EIS staff, Chamber Board and Industry, Training and Employment Services as required
4. Employment coaching, Retention and Advancement Supports a. Monitor and follow up, including on-site visits, as a support network for the newcomerb. Regular on-site visits to identify and coordinate for on-the-job training for clientsc. Assisting clients to resolve workplace issues that could include guidance on employer expectations, workplace standards and orientation to the workplaced. Working with employers to:o promote employment opportunities to immigrant/newcomerso establish hiring, interview and orientation processes for newcomers to ensure successful employment opportunityo liaison between the employee and employer in reference to understanding Canadian workplace culture and client personal culture and perspectives, cultural values and interpretationso support skills and training opportunities or requirements for the employee, highlighted by the employero create opportunity for cultural and diversity and safety training for employer and employeeJob Type: Fixed term contractContract length: 12 monthsSalary: $18.00-$25.00 per hourSchedule:
