Job Description

40 hours per week, 12 months per year. This position includes an excellent benefits package, 3 weeks vacation to start, and OMERS pension plan.Hours of Work:Day Shift: Eight (8) consecutive hours between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, excluding an unpaid meal period of a minimum of one half (1/2) hour to a maximum of one (1) hour, subject to scheduling demands of the site.Summary:Under the direction of the Assistant Supervisor of Maintenance Services or designate, the Plumber operates, maintains, repairs and installs plumbing and heating equipment; ensuring work is performed in a safe and effective manner, complying with Board and legislative standards and codes; ensuring Board vehicles, equipment and tools are properly maintained; performing other related duties to ensure that properties, facilities, and equipment are properly maintainedRequired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current relevant codes and legislation (Acts and Regulations), new materials, equipment, products, methods and procedures.
  • Interpersonal, and communication skills required to liaise with co-workers, plant supervisors, chief custodians, and other Board personnel to gather information regarding problems, order and purchase supplies/materials; listening skills required to understand explanations of problems, and how equipment is functioning.
  • Ability to use a variety of tools such as hammer, drill, jigsaw, grinder, pipe thawing machine, pipe cleaning machine, water pressure equipment, cleaning cables and rods, soldering torches, and drill press.
  • Organization skills to prioritize work orders and reschedule activities due to emergency calls.
  • Initiative and judgement required to make decisions such as methods of repair, equipment and supplies needed, and prioritizing work orders.
  • Ability to report code violations, complete forms such daily logs and work order sheet. Ability to calculate for costing material. Ability to use electronic mail system and computer maintenance management system and to work with minimum supervision.
Completion of secondary school diploma. Only those with a Trades Certificate in Plumbing and 5 years experience in the plumbing trade, which includes 3 years in industrial or commercial maintenance, will be considered. Valid Ontario Class G drivers license or equivalent.
