(Job # 2021-037-IE)Department: Leisure & Community ServicesStatus: Full-time, PermanentDate Posted: May 21, 2021Date Closing: June 4, 2021 4:30 p.m.Number of positions: 1Scheduled Hours/Shifts: 37.5 hours per weekSalary: $80,136 to $97,479Position Purpose:The Parks Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and supervision of operations/maintenance functions and in-housecapital construction projects related to parks, open space, trails and streetscapes. Key responsibilities of the positioninclude: organizing and supervising grass cutting operations, turf maintenance, sports field maintenance, cemeterymaintenance, garbage collection, streetscape maintenance and associated flower planting and watering, trail maintenance,tree/shrub planting and pruning, park furniture/equipment inspection and general maintenance, naturalization programs,park washroom cleaning and supplies replenishing, outdoor ice rinks construction and flooding. This position will overseethe coordination of services-in-kind assistance for community and special events and snow removal for municipal facilityparking lots and walkways. They supervise contractor and contract administration for maintenance and constructionwork/projects, equipment and supplies, tenders/specifications, staff development, safety and the recruitment and orientationof seasonal staff and students. This position will also help develop procedures and communicate the implementation, assistwith policy and standards development, budget preparation and administration while providing input to forecasts and workplans. They will also coordinate repair of Parks fleet/equipment, ensure timely input to maintenance management program,and will provide back-up support to the Facilities Supervisor to assist with Building Maintenance as required/assigned.Qualifications and Requirements:

  • University Degree or College diploma in Parks Maintenance or related discipline; with a minimum of five (5) years
of demonstrated experience in parks maintenance and operations in an urban growth environment, includingsupervisory experience in a unionized workforce
  • ISA Certified Arborist is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, time/project management, organizational, analytical, recordkeeping, work
prioritization, problem-solving, and staff leadership and supervisory skills
  • Ability to build strong and enthusiastic teams and internal/external alliances/partnerships to align maintenance
and operations programs
  • Ability to foster and contribute to a positive, productive, customer service-oriented work environment; and to deal
courteously and effectively with all contacts
  • Thorough working knowledge of parks-related maintenance, equipment and best practices; the Occupational
Health & Safety Act and other applicable parks operations, cemetery care and maintenance; capital projectplanning; municipal and safety-related legislation/regulations/guidelines; labour relations principles and practices,contemporary management practices and collective agreement administration
  • Computer literacy utilizing word processing and spreadsheet software, email and parks-related maintenance
management and work-order systems
  • Availability to assist with emergency response, and attend after-hours meetings or special events as required, and
