Job Description

Summer Student Food Service WorkerContract Full-time – 35 hours for 8 weeksGreenwood Court, Tri-County Mennonite HomesStratford, ONAbout Greenwood Court:Greenwood Court is designed as a Community of Care where seniors are able to age in place. As the needs of our seniors change, they have access to additional services and supports without having to leave familiar surroundings or newly developed friendships. Staff and volunteers are committed to making Greenwood Court "a place to call home" for its residents.About the position:As a valued member of the team, the Food Service Worker (Summer Student) will serve food, dishwash, and other related duties. They are also responsible to aid with food preparation under the cooks direction.This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs ProgramQUALIFICATIONS for Summer Grant Program

  • Must be able to relate, communicate and co-operate effectively with staff, residents, residents families, and the public
  • Knowledge of basic nutrition and special diet needs of individual residents
  • Able to operate kitchen utensils and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Able to work in an environment that is subject to temperature change
  • Able to tolerate standing and lifting throughout the workday
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Must be open to new knowledge and changes in the healthcare and food service fields
  • Must be able to exhibit maturity, good judgment, and flexibility
  • Possess physical and mental capabilities to provide quality resident care
  • Must show genuine concern for the elderly
  • Must be between the age of 15-30 years of age.
  • Is a Canadian Citizen , permanent resident or person on whom under refugee protection.
EXPERIENCE
  • Demonstrated commitment to learning and continuous improvement
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Effective customer service skills and a demonstrated commitment to working with seniors
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills required.
  • Basic computer skills are an asset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Post-Secondary desired but not a must
  • Field of Studies ~ Medical office, Business Administration, Health informatics
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESRecord Management
  • Ensure that new information regarding residents is forwarded to the appropriate destination including new resident information.
  • Complete the resident admission/discharge process for clerical set up
  • Ensure that resident charts are maintained according to the active chart record policy.
  • Ensures that resident charts are thinned on a regular basis following the chart thinning policy.
  • Ensures that discharge charts are filed using the homes policy.
Clerical functions
  • Maintains a supply of nursing supplies including paper supplies on a weekly basis.
  • Photocopies/faxes as required.
  • Sets up binders and material for orientation.
  • Answer phones and directs visitors.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Work in accordance with the organizations Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
