Job Description

Position summary: Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all tools, dies, fixtures and gauges. Develop new tooling methods, build innovative tools and revamp tooling standards to reduce production costs. Research new suppliers and tooling conceptsPosition duties: May include, but not limited to:

  • Tear Down, repair and rebuild tools
  • Set up, operate and maintain a variety of conventional machine tools to cut, turn, mill, plane, drill, bore, grind or otherwise shape work piece to prescribed dimensions and finish
  • Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM) and electronic measuring devices
  • Fit and assemble or disassemble parts using hand tools
  • Test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation
  • Examine tools for defects
  • Lubricate and clean machine parts, assemblies, and equipment to prevent system breakdowns.
  • Feed, load, or remove parts from plastic processing machinery. As part of regular maintenance or a necessary repair,
  • File, trim, saw, buff, drill, and debur machine parts, using hand and power tools.
  • Follows daily/weekly maintenance schedules
  • Work with Quality Engineering on validation requirements
  • Assembly Automation (build/design/maintain fixtures and gauges)
  • Assist Plant Program Manager and Quality Manager with tooling design
  • Inspection of tooling as it is being designed and built
  • Identify improvement opportunities related to current product lines with regard to tooling, cost, quality, and or design.
  • Continuously improve all aspects of product development and anticipate problems, providing input on solutions, reacting productively to change, and by handling other tasks as assigned.
· Ensure readiness of all resources required to meet 100% production schedule requirements at all times· Keep Shift Supervisor informed of any abnormalities in the production flow· Attend all required meetings and training when scheduled· Must be able to work overtime and to work overtime at short notice (call in)· Must follow all company rules, regulations and company policies· Must be knowledgeable in required personal protective equipment· Regular and Predictable attendance· Other duties as assignedRequired skills and experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.Education and/or Experience: · College Level or Above§ 5 years’ experience in tool shop or machining shop§ Familiar with tool build process§ Familiar with tool machining process§ Strong outsourcing management capability§ Strong communication and negotiation skills§ Proactive, cooperative, self-directedSafety Requirements:§ Must observe and practice all safety regulations. This includes the wearing and proper usage of the necessary personal protective equipment required for any task.Language Skills § Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.§ Ability to write simple correspondence.Reasoning Ability§ Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.§ May have the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Mathematical Skills: § Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,common fractions, and decimals.Safety Requirements:Must observe and practice all safety regulations. This includes the wearing and proper usage of the necessary personal protective equipment required for any task.Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence.Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.May have the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,common fractions, and decimals.Work Environment and Physical Demands· The position requires the ability to work in non-climate controlled plant areas and climate controlled office areas.· This position is exposed to noisy plant areas, and forklift traffic.· This position requires the ability to walk on concrete floors, lift up to 30 pounds, perform repetitive keystrokes on a continual basis, and occasionally bend, kneel, twist, and reach.The work environment and physical demands detailed above are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of the job.
