Job Description

BACKGROUNDNightwind Treatment Centre currently operates three inpatient treatment facilities for youth. We are trauma-informed and integrate indigenous healing into our treatment program. We are accredited by the Canadian Accreditation Council and we are proud to be dual licensed as a Residential Facility under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act, and a Residential Addiction Treatment Service under the Mental Health Services Protection Act.Kihew House, Sturgeon County

  • 9-bed, Rural Treatment Program for young women ages 12-18;
  • Treatment program supporting abuse history, substance abuse, and conflict;
  • Trauma-informed care integrated into the program;
  • Focus on indigenous cultural teachings and experiences as the foundation of our four-stage treatment which is aligned with the medicine wheel and seven sacred teachings.
Stony Creek House, Tawatinaw Valley
  • 7-bed, Rural Co-Ed Receiving Program for youth ages 12-18;
  • Receiving program for youth in preparation for treatment;
  • Trauma-informed care integrated into the program;
  • Focus on healing and skill-building through agricultural programming, connecting with nature, outdoor education, and physical fitness activities.
Grandmother Turtle House, Westlock
  • 4-bed, TSIL Program for young women 15-22;
  • Transition to a Semi-Independent Living program for stabilized young women;
  • Trauma-informed care integrated into the program;
  • Focus on daily living skills, school success, employment and transitioning to independent living.
Job PurposeTreatment Support helps provide assistance to the Therapist and the overall treatment program at Nightwind Treatment Centre by ensuring a trauma-informed milieu exists for persons served.Attitudes
  • Maintain and promote the philosophy that “every child will do well if they can” for all staff
  • Champion a trauma-informed approach by reinforcing for all staff the importance of healthy relationships and the effective prevention and resolution of conflict
Environment
  • Establish and maintain a culture of learning, professional growth, trauma-informed practice, cultural relevance and overall focus on healing and treatment for persons-served
Administration
  • Adherence to the high standards of accreditation expected of a high-quality treatment facility and ensuring positive relationships with all licensing bodies
  • Provide administrative support to programs:
    • Assist staff to ensure that policies and procedures are followed
    • Participate in Service Team meetings
    • Participate in staff meetings for the general staffing team
    • Review and assess all referral packages and liaise with the Service Team regarding potential approvals for intake as requested
    • Support youth to participate in the treatment program
    • Support the service team to deliver high-quality services
    • Ensure all Client Progress Reports are completed
Learning
  • Support staff learning in the areas of treatment, group care, behaviour support, trauma informed care, diversity and cultural awareness as needed
  • Support cultural teachings, experiences and ceremonies as part of treatment, not a separate program
Treatment
  • Create and monitor treatment plans for persons-served
  • Provide individual and group counselling support to persons-served
  • Support intake assessments for all persons served and ensure these assessments
  • Work with persons-served and staff to complete safety plans and managed risk plans as appropriate
  • Help persons-served manage conflict and maintain healthy relationships
  • Lead cultural program by ensuring appropriate cultural activities are available for all persons-served
Quality Improvement
  • Support priority items in the Strategic Plan
  • Constantly improve quality of care through feedback, research/best practice review and innovation
Communications
  • Promote positivity and hopefulness with persons served, colleagues, stakeholders and members of the public
  • Exercise appropriate activities for promoting NWTC programs and services
  • Serve as support to the Program Manager to liaise with stakeholders to promote confidence in the excellent services provided by NWTC. Develop effective relationships with stakeholders and create marketing activities which enhance the excellent reputation of NWTC
  • Maintain confidentiality and abide by the Oath of Confidentiality, NWTC Code of Conduct and the Child and Youth Care Association Ethical guidelines
Reporting
  • Report regularly to the Executive Director on the successes and challenges of the program
  • Complete monthly assurance report
Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience with indigenous culture
  • Experience working with indigenous children and youth in care is essential
  • Graduate or undergraduate degree and/or diploma in Human Services
