Job Description

A rewarding opportunity for an experienced metallurgist as the Manager of Pyrometallurgy now exists in Sudbury, ON reporting to the VP XPS. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians by providing support for both the long-term strategic growth and shorter-term plant operational needs of companies requiring expertise in pyrometallurgy. The Manager Pyrometallurgyamp; Furnace Integrity will be accountable to meet or exceed expectations in safety, financial and technical performance of the team.The group is well equipped to address industry and client needs through on-site plant support and pyrometallurgical test work at both laboratory and pilot plant scales. Services are offered at a competitive price-to-quality ratio. We add value to our client #39;s project or operation through:

  • On-site plant support for smelters and refineries, e.g. emission abatement strategies (SO2), raising throughput capacity, addressing impurity tolerance levels and improving product/metal quality, refractory performance, metallurgical audits, benchmarking, and de-bottlenecking.
  • Laboratory and/or pilot scale test work incorporating fluid bed roasting, smelting, carbon reactivity, slag rheology and associated unit operations, in base metals .
  • Flowsheet and process design criteria development for new projects or plant expansions.
  • Smelter site support in furnace integrity assessments and risk analysis, along with co-ordingation of a global Glencore furnace integrity network.
Responsibilities:
  • Leads and coordinates consulting services in the mining and metals processes sector.
  • Actively participates in the business development by identifying opportunities and growing the client base.
  • Project management ensuring profitability of the group.
  • Proposal writing and presenting results to clients at a highly technical level.
  • Motivates and assists with planning and execution of programs.
  • Spearheads the integration of new technologies into the mainstream of process flow sheet development for clients.
  • Supervise, coach and mentor departmental personnel.
  • Project responsibilities range from laboratory test work to operations support.
  • Strategic partner in the leadership of the XPS business.
Qualifications/SkillsThe ideal candidate will possess:
  • A degree in metallurgical, chemical engineering or related degree and/or related experience.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience in extractive metallurgy and holding an engineering license.
  • Experience with base metals (both oxideamp; sulphide), precious metal and rare earth pyrometallurgy.
  • Knowledge and experience in mineral and metallurgical extraction processes as well as in performing operating and capital cost estimates.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic team.
  • Demonstrates the ability to write complex technical reports.
  • An acute business sense and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite or equivalent products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in budgeting, estimating and scheduling with financial modelling skills being an asset.
