Working in close collaboration with the Lead, documents and develops materials to increase patient awareness and knowledge to improve personal health ownership within members of the South Asian Community.Some duties include meeting within South Asian places of worship within Fraser Health boundaries on weekends and evenings to conduct basic interviews and provide educational information related to improvement of personal health ownership.Responsibilities:Provides organizational, administrative and coordinative support to the SAHI Leader and Institute in a variety of educational and program initiatives focused on the South Asian Community in the following areas:

  • Collaborates with the SAHI Leader and graphic designer to develop posters, food displays and other educational-based material.
  • Within the South Asian community, sets up and conducts basic interviews with patients related to specific health needs of the SA population. Consolidates interview findings and provides survey / interview findings to the Leader for further review, analysis and action.
  • Researches specific educational needs and resources relevant to the health needs of the SA population. Consolidates information and suggests/recommends methods to convey information to SA population clients in order to augment and contribute to their personal health literacy.
  • Provides administrative and coordinative support to the South Asian Health Institute (SAHI) to assist the Institute to improve and enhance the utilization of prevention services designed to improve the health and wellness of the community through programs such as: clinical prevention education, chronic disease prevention management, health literacy and health system navigation sessions.
  • Provides administrative and coordinator support to the Leader and SEHAT by setting up and coordinating sessions to South Asian adults at their places of worship. Assists SEHAT in the conduct of sessions and/or educational sessions as appropriate.
Qualifications: Education and ExperienceCompletion of Grade 12 plus college or university courses related to education, general arts & science, business or health related discipline, supplemented with a minimum of 6 months related work experience in coordinating and supporting the delivery of programs to specified client populations or communities.Proficiency in Punjabi and/or Hindi, in addition to English Language competency.Valid BC Drivers License; access to a personal vehicle for business purposes.Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrates the LEADS capabilities of Leads Self, Engages Others, Achieves Results, Develops Coalitions and supports Systems Transformation.Professional/Technical Capabilities:
  • Knowledge of, awareness and sensitivity of the practices and protocols within South Asian places of worship (ie Temples, Gurudwaras and Mosques within Fraser Health boundaries.
