EXTERNAL POSTINGSchool Age Educator Assistant – Seasonal / TemporaryAlexandra Neighbourhood House is looking for a caring, passionate, creative and flexible individual to join our dynamic childcare team as a School Age Educator Assistant. Our team is collaborative and inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to learning alongside the BC Early Learning Framework.Purpose and Responsibilities: We are an inclusive, multicultural, dynamic and collaborative childcare centre. Our School Age EducatorAssistant will work collaborately with a team of Early Childhood Educators and School Age Educators to plan, develop and deliver daily activities that support and promote the health and development of school age children 5- 12 years of age, using the Reggio Emilia approach to learning alongside the BC Early Learning Framework. Other responsibilities include developing strong relationships and communication with children, families and colleagues, and implementing high standards of care and supervision that promote the well-being of all children. And other related duties as required.*Please note this position is funded through the Federal Canada Summer Jobs Program starting June 28 – Aug 20 (8 weeks). The right candidate with the required qualifications will have potential to move into an on-call casual role or a regular position in our childcare programs in the Fall.Qualifications Required: · Experience working in a childcare setting is an asset· Successful completion of one or more courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition or willing to obtain· Experience working with children (5 – 12 years of age) including those with special needs and their parents/guardians· Understanding and/or willingness to learn the Reggio Emilia approach to learning and the BC EarlyLearning Framework· Creativity, flexibility, initiative, enthusiasm and sense of humor· Appropriate personal and professional boundaries· Proven sound judgement, ethical decision making, ability to stay calm under pressure· Ability to work in a multicultural and inclusive environment· First Aid CertificateThe successful candidate must have or ready to acquire:
