Job Description

Supply Chain Wizard - Sourcing and Operations BuyerPosition Purpose/Objective: As a Sourcing and Operations Buyer, or more accurately described as a Supply Chain Wizard, you are applying your knowledge to make things happen!You are leading the planning, purchasing and logistical activity of raw materials and various goods through ERP/MPR and Excel tools. You are watchful of adequate inventory levels and material flow as you collaborate and communicate with all stakeholders in this cycle.A key element for success in this role is to have curiosity to learn the steps of how things are manufactured. By developing in-depth product and process understanding, you will be very effective working with suppliers, controlling costs and ensuring supply continuity.Outcomes and Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage purchase orders and deliveries:
  • Issue, confirm and track purchase orders, communicating and working with the team to resolve any setback.
  • Monitor and address receiving and invoice discrepancies.
  • Monitor and improve suppliers delivery performance.
  • Ensure quality consistency by addressing product non-conformances. Communicate and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain system data accuracy, including prices and delivery dates.
  • Create receiving documents for container deliveries (pallet details and signs)
  • Monitor, review and action weekly re-order reports for Supplies and Consumables, including raw materials, tools, maintenance and equipment spare parts and office supplies.
  • Provide warehouse support for inventory management and reconciliation of discrepancies.
  • Engage with vendors:
  • Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships. Influence and persuade vendors to add more value while supporting their success.
  • Gain understanding of factory operations, manufacturing processes and costing structures.
  • Take initiative of finding process improvements and creative solutions for cost reduction.
  • Provide quoting and sourcing assistance for various improvement projects, cross-functional areas.
  • Prepare sourcing quote packages (RFQs), including service and quality expectations, procurement specifications, demand, packaging and logistics requirements.
  • Understand and analyze competitive quotes.
  • Coordinate logistics and expediting:
  • Obtain tracking numbers from inbound international freight and monitor and trace until delivery.
  • Maintain internal delivery schedule calendar, coordinating deliveries with warehouse and operations.
  • Maintain ocean freight expenses tracker and other logistics KPIs.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, carriers and customs brokers to process import transactions.
  • Obtain missing documents (invoices, certificates) required for customs clearance.
  • Set up local deliveries for product.
  • Learn about determining HS classifications codes, applying for rulings and maintaining our system.
  • Manage and track cost:
  • Understand Should cost price. Breakdown product prices by considering all inputs associated with making it and delivering it (raw materials, manufacturing processes, tooling requirements, labour estimations, freight and logistics).
  • Handle supplier pricing negotiations with corresponding market and commodity trends intelligence.
  • Develop detailed pricing models based on product knowledge paired with supplier capabilities and processes.
  • Perform monthly contract pricing updates on ERP system.
  • Engage and collaborate with teammates:
  • Customer Service: general product inquiries and component clear-to-build order support.
  • Design Engineers: new product quotes, providing design for manufacturing (DFM) feedback.
  • Product Management: coordination of new product launches, inventory control, creation of new stock codes and Bill of Materials structures when needed.
  • Sales & Marketing: understanding what drives demand and supporting special customer initiatives.

  • Holds a university degree in related field, engineering will be considered an asset.
  • Can look at the big picture and understand the elements that will bring a project to success.

  • Asks insightful questions. Has curiosity to learn how things are made.
  • Has familiarity with manufacturing environments and a technical understanding of processes and the elements of product costing – experience with extruded/anodized aluminum and/or zinc die-casting is ideal.
  • Has experience finding and evaluating new suppliers, participating in factory visits and learning about new manufacturing methods and alternative materials.
  • Trusts in relationship building, open communication, strong negotiation skills and is an excellent collaborator with proven ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Has global purchasing experience.
  • Has great time-management skills.
  • Is a self-starter, proactive and able to work independently.
  • Is a high-performance team player, willing to work in a dynamic, growing, demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Has understanding of product lifecycle.
  • Has strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Is highly organized, exhibits critical thinking skills, strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Has ability to travel two or three or times per year.
  • Must possess a functioning crystal ball : )
