EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITYCoordinator of VolunteersMulticultural Association of SussexOVERVIEWReporting to the Multicultural Association of Sussex the incumbent is responsible for the implementation and periodic review of volunteer management on behalf of the Multicultural Association of Sussex in order to strengthen and support it’s service and program delivery.Volunteers are the backbone of our non-profit organization and play in integral role in service delivery, as well as expanding the footprint of the organization. We have had ongoing support from the community, newcomers, local service groups, and the general public, who have expressed a keen interest in volunteering with our organization, and we have developed several meaningful programs for volunteers with a variety of interests and skills. The Coordinator of Volunteers will work to recruit, support, and retain volunteers for the organization, and will work within the team to identify needs and roles in the various departments (settlement, language, community connections, youth, admin and more).DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Recruitment, placement, onboarding, vetting, and supporting all of the volunteers (both community members and clients), for all of MAS’ needs.· Prepare information and orientation sessions for volunteers to inform them about our various programs and needs.· Coordinate conversation circles and matching programs for newcomers and community volunteers, and other volunteer-based programming in conjunction with the MAS team.· Provide training to volunteers who want to get involved with the local community organizations.· Promote openness to diversity and raise awareness in collaboration with various community partners, volunteers, and clients.· Coordinate, develop and assist in facilitating community forums, events, presentations and workshops in conjunction with the MAS team.· Manage, prepare, revise and distribute communication content via websites, brochures, reports and other documents, social media, presentations and other tools related to the volunteer department.· Participate in the development of processes, tools and policies in relation to volunteer management and coordination.· This is a fast paced work environment which necessitates staff to problem solve and act with good judgement.QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: · 2 (2) years of post-secondary studies in a discipline related to the position.· Or: Four (4) years of experience in a discipline deemed relevant to the position.· Or: An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Knowledge:· Intermediate+ knowledge of spoken and written English, comfortable with public speaking· Bilingualism with a language common to local newcomers such as (but not limited to): Ukrainian, Portuguese, Arabic, Punjabi or French is considered an asset· Familiarity in Microsoft Office, client database software, Outlook, Canva, and Social Media platforms· Marketing, sales, and customer service skills are an asset· Excellent impact storytelling and communications (web and media) skillsAptitudes: · Show patience and respect for newcomers, volunteers, and vulnerable groups· Advanced leadership, planning, organizational and prioritization skills.· Able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, and under pressure· Capable of partnering and working with other community organizations and immigration service providers at the local and provincial levels.· Able to exercise tact in communicating and negotiating with, influencing and serving internal and external stakeholders.· Able to work both under limited supervision and as part of a team.· Discretion, confidentiality and compliance with the Privacy Act. · Flexibility and openness, ability to analyze and synthesize information.· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships with various stakeholders.· Able to make presentations, convey information, and plan and execute meetings and events.· Sound judgment and conflict resolution skills in an intercultural context.· Interest in local economic and community development and multiculturalism.· A passion for the local region is required for this position· Proven success in mobilizing groups towards a common goalRequirements: · A criminal record check is a condition of employment.· Candidates must have a valid driver’s licence; access to a vehicle is an asset.Working hours, compensation and term of position· 30 hours per week variable (some evening and weekends required for activities)· Salary between $18 and $20 per hour depending on experience· Contract until March 31 2023 with possibility of renewal· 3 weeks vacation per year*, sick time, flex time· Opportunities for professional development· Mostly days: Monday to Thursday 8:30-4 pm, with flex time provided for evening and weekend activities and events*Vacation time is calculated based on hours worked at a rate of 6%Work and travel on evenings and weekends for activities across the region will sometimes be required in this position. The incumbent will have the option to manage her/his own schedule to meet the position requirements effectively without incurring overtime.
