Job Description

Lab TechnicianG.E. Barbour Inc. is a multi-product food processor based in Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada famous for King Cole Tea, Barbours spices and nut butters. Since 1867, G.E. Continued growth has created a need for a Lab Technician.Lab Technicians: Carry out necessary checks, testing and documentation required to prove the production of safe quality foodsSummary of Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, sterilizing and validating all applicable solutions and Lab equipment
  • Preparing samples, pipetting, and reading petri-film plates for total coliform, E. coli, SPC, yeast and mold
  • Documenting results of petri-film in forms as needed and followed up with data entry on lab computer
  • Performing other Lab tests including aflatoxin tests, density, peanut piece analysis, moisture analysis, viscosity, water activity and other general Lab tests as outlined in the Lab procedures manual and SOPs
  • Calibrating/challenging lab equipment
  • Performing line checks
  • Picking up samples for analysis from various production lines
  • Performing quality assurance checks which may include ingredient flow measurements, weight checks and temperature checks on various production lines
  • Performing environmental, allergen and organic swabbing on various production lines
  • Sampling and Plating water
  • Taking raw material samples when received
  • Monitoring peanut, spice and outside warehouse coolers and provide first-step follow-up when temperature readings are out-of-spec
  • Removing products from hold
  • Assisting with R&D projects as they become available
  • Investigates Returned Goods
  • The incumbent should follow GLPs (Good Lab Practices) by ensuring countertops and lab equipment are kept clean and sanitary
  • Must adhere to the written Lab practices (SOPs) and procedures manual. The incumbent should also follow good personal hygiene rules.
  • Ordering of lab supplies
  • Other duties as assigned
Education:
  • Chemical Technology or Medical Technology degree
  • Biotechnology
Experience:
  • 2 years experience (Co-op terms included)
