Job Description

ResponsibilitiesSettlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) Program assists newcomer students and their families adjust to the new school environment and the community. The SWIS worker will be under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and will be responsible for the following:1.Establish and maintain contact with the newcomer families in order to determine their needs and issues, including conducting needs assessment and referrals;2.Connect families to resources and services in the schools and the community;3.Facilitate access to resources and services where there are language and cultural barriers;4.Promote cultural sensitivity links between school staff and newcomer families.5.Advocate for clients in order to ensure that proper services are delivered;6.Plan and deliver after school programs, activities and leadership camps for clients;7.Reporting and grant proposal writing;8. Able to work from home when the need arises.9. Other related tasks.Travel within the southwest region is required for this position, applicant must have a valid drivers license and own vehicle. Experience working in a multicultural setting and/or knowledge of another language is an asset.Skills and AbilitiesEssential Skills
