Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton CountyThe Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County is a community-based learning organization that provides literacy and GED preparation programs in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. We strengthen individuals, families and communities by meeting the needs of adult learners. We are a registered charity.We are seeking a motivated and highly organized individual to provide evening instruction of adult students in level 1 of the Nova Scotia Adult Learning Program. These students experience cognitive challenges.The Adult Learning Instructor will: · Provide classroom management and instruction of students in level 1 of the Nova Scotia Adult Learning Program· Conduct informal assessments of new and current learners; help learners set realistic goals; evaluate learners progress· Work as part of the instructional team· Develop and maintain a student file for each learner· Submit written monthly reports, provide attendance and other statistics and information about the progress of the program and of learners as required· complete the Nova Scotia Literacy Practitioners Training and Certification program, if necessary· Respect the confidentiality of individualsRequired Skills: · Adaptable, flexible and resourceful· Understanding of the challenges experienced by marginalized members of our community in completing their education· Proven ability to work independently and with minimal supervision· Strong organizational, time management and planning skills· Ability to motivate people· Excellent oral and written communication skills· Knowledge of the principles of adult education· Basic computer skillsQualifications: · Experience in teaching of adults and working with individuals with cognitive challenges· Undergraduate degree and a Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent in training in adult education desirableTerms of Employment: · $26.02 to $30.45 per hour; 5 hours per week; evenings· Classes held Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6-8 pmLocation: Sydney, Nova ScotiaStart Date: As soon as possible End Date: June, 2023Closing Date: Wednesday, October 12, 2022Job Types: Part-time, SeasonalContract length: 7 monthsPart-time hours: 5 per weekSalary: $26.02-$30.45 per hourBenefits:
