About the OpportunityProtocase is currently seeking a Maintenance Technician for its Maintenance and Operations team in Sydney (Cape Breton), Nova Scotia. Protocase’s two production facilities are busy environments where every enclosure, panel and part ordered is custom-manufactured from scratch. Our customers around the world depend on us to make professional-grade custom sheet metal and CNC Machined products that meet their specifications, all within our signature 2-3 day manufacturing turnaround time. In order to meet our stringent quality requirements and crucial on-time targets, we need a Maintenance Technician with a strong attention to detail and the ability to think on their feet that can help maintain and improve our manufacturing equipment and facility.If you enjoy being hands-on and troubleshooting machinery, this is a role for you!Duties and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Maintenance Manager your duties and responsibilities may include but not be limited to the following:
  • Performing regular maintenance on machinery and other equipment.
  • Troubleshooting machinery malfunctions and outages.
  • Updating and maintaining information within our maintenance software.
  • Working with vendors to source required parts for both repairs and performance upgrades.
  • Providing regular, thorough updates to management and other teams on equipment status.
  • Working as part of a team with as our maintenance department
As our Maintenance Technician, you will lend your expertise and assistance in the planning and execution of growing our manufacturing facility to accommodate new equipment!In addition to working regularly scheduled hours in this position, there will be some after-hours work as required. This will be the case when crucial manufacturing equipment outages need to be addressed. Above all else, we need someone dependable who will take a sense of pride and ownership around keeping our machines running – even if they happen to malfunction late in the evening or on a weekend.Essential Requirements
  • Apprenticeship program or a diploma or certificate program considered an asset
  • Millwright experience considered a major asset
  • Two or more years’ experience in a troubleshooting/maintenance role
  • Must be able to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation, electronics and automation
  • Proven abilities in problem solving and strong decision-making skills
  • Commitment to following procedures and attention to detail
  • Self-starter who is able to take initiative, while also seeking the expertise of others as needed
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Team-player attitude
