Job Description

Taber and District Community Adult Learning Association (TDCALA) is a not-for-profit organization that provides learning opportunities to foundational learners and English Language Learners. TDCALA’s mission is to create a vibrant learning community that supports changing and improving one life at a time.TDCALA is currently seeking one individual to work part-time teaching English as another language to adults in Taber, Alberta. The program runs three mornings a week from 8:30am to 12pm beginning October 4 through March 16 for 20 weeks (no class December 9 through January 9).Job DescriptionPRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide the ELL component for the adults in a Women’s English class. The emphasis will be to help adults improve their basic written and oral English literacy skills.DUTIES OF THE INSTRUCTOR

  • Prepare and deliver an adult English language learning program based on the curriculum resources provided.
  • Assess adult students as to their entry level of literacy and monitor improvements throughout the program.
  • Maintain attendance records of all learner activities, send monthly progress reports to the EAL Coordinator, keep track of attendance and inform EAL Coordinator of any withdrawals, etc.
  • Follow COVID protocol as laid out by Taber Adult Learning
  • Prepare written and oral reports on the program’s progress as required.
  • Participate in professional development activities and staff meetings.
  • Evaluate the program and students at mid-term and at the end of the project.
  • Maintain an inventory of all resources and supplies.
  • Work in a cooperative and professional manner with childcare staff, program partners and administrators.
  • Prepare a final report summarizing all activities and making recommendations for presentation to the EAL Drop-In Centre Coordinator.
  • Work cooperatively with the EAL Drop-In Centre Coordinator: report successes and/or problems with or students as they occur.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the EAL Drop-In Centre Coordinator.
Preference will be given to applicants with ESL experience and/or a teaching degree, but these are not required.We thank all candidates for their interest, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contractSalary: $20.00-$23.00 per hourSchedule:

  • Taber, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
