Clerk Typist II - Utilities/AR ClerkTemporary Full Time (12 Month Leave)Competition No. JP22-036Internal/External PostingDURATION: 75 hours bi-weekly, temporary vacancy until return of permanent employeeDEPARTMENT: FinanceWAGE: $26.84/ hr plus benefitsHOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours / week (Monday through Friday)CLOSING DATE: November 22nd, 2022, at 4:30 p.m.POSITION SUMMARY:As a member of the Finance team this position performs a variety of accounting duties relating to the processing of Utilities and Accounts Receivable. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, proven experience working in a team environment and excellent financial skills. This position falls within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 2038.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position must be familiar with the utility bylaw and know how to apply it.
  • Processes and maintains records and reports related to utility and AR accounts such as billings, consumption reports, occupants, meter readings, adjustments, and penalties etc.
  • Prepares and mails monthly utility bills and AR Invoices and statements.
  • Reconciles Utility and Accounts Receivable GL accounts monthly.
  • Prepares correspondence to Utility and AR customers.
  • Prepares monthly utility arrears list for transfer to taxes.
  • Processes outstanding utility and AR accounts for collection.
  • Receives telephone calls from customers inquiring about utilities and AR.Determines the purpose of the call and provides or obtains the necessary information or refers it to the appropriate personnel.
  • Tracks construction water and new home set up
  • Organizes and maintains the utilities and AR filing system.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining utility statements and envelope supplies.
  • Performs daily bank reconciliation duties
  • Counts the previous day cash receipts and prepares the bank deposit
  • Communicates with the Tax Clerk and Planning department as to properties being purchased/sold and businesses vacating properties.
  • Maintains and updates the Utility and AR portions of the Town of Taber website.
  • Responsible for creation and maintenance of the position’s process manual.
  • Expected to cross train with the other Finance positions as directed by the Director of Finance or Finance Manager.
  • This position should be capable of covering coffee and lunch breaks for the Clerk Typist I – Receptionist by maintaining cash receipts and responding to telephone inquiries when required.
  • Performs other related duties, as directed by the Director or Manager of Finance, such as ad hoc projects, etc.
  • Participates in the workplace health and safety program, including monthly worksite and hazard inspections.
  • Must be able to work independently and problem solve.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic accounting courses, preferably with Business Administration Diploma.
  • Experience with utilities and AR billing and processing.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR/AED training.
  • Ability to provide a clean Police Information Check.
