Facility Maintenance Journey Person Carpenter-Internal/External PostingCompetition No. 22-004POSITION SUMMARY:The Town of Taber is looking for a suitable person to perform day-to-day preventative maintenance of Town-owned buildings and equipment, as well as perform a variety of duties to support the ongoing maintenance and operation of municipal infrastructure systems. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implements buildings and equipment preventative maintenance programs. Makes recommendations regarding buildings and equipment life cycle projections.
  • Maintains buildings/equipment such as interior/exterior finishes, roof structures, plumbing equipment, air handling systems, pumps, compressors, valves & controls.
  • Coordinate’s maintenance & repairs with contractors.
  • Monitors & assesses work assigned to contractors.
  • Conducts & documents contractor orientations & tailgate safety meetings.
  • Consults with suppliers, confirms specifications, and requests equipment and supplies purchases.
  • Maintains adequate supplies & materials, purchases replacement stock.
  • Reviews, maintains and updates records such as checklists, incident reports, lifecycle plans, tailgate meeting records, contractor orientation, progress reports and operating procedures.
  • Identifies and analyzes buildings & equipment maintenance issues; implements solutions.
  • Reads, interprets and updates mechanical, architectural, and structural blueprints, sketches schematic diagrams.
  • Conducts regular buildings and equipment inspections.
  • Identifies and analyzes buildings & equipment maintenance issues; implements solutions.
  • Researches and develops equipment and materials specifications
  • Research and compiles information to make recommendations for annual operating and capital budget.
  • Performs other related duties such as community event setup, painting, and health & safety program duties.
  • Communicates with and works with the other team members consistently to improve overall operation of the Town’s facilities and leases of facilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Journeyperson Certificate in Carpentry is required
  • Successful completion of grade 12 or equivalent
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in residential/commercial construction and building maintenance or related experience in the construction industry
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to keep tools and work area tidy
  • Strong working knowledge of all aspects of building operations and maintenance
  • Strong ability to effectively identify and solve building related problems
  • Interest in working with construction materials, machinery & equipment
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Aerial Lift truck is considered and asset
  • Familiarity with computerized applications, Excel, Word, Email etc.
  • Confined Space certificate is considered an asset
  • Standard First Aid and CPR/AED
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently on a repetitive basis
