Job Description

• Assists learners who have difficulties producing written materials in class by taking notes from lectures and presentations.
• Assists writing answers to exam questions exactly as dictated by the learner.
• Assists learners by preparing and assembling materials to complete academic projects.
• Provides support services during class or after class to complete assignments.
• Utilize current technologies the student needs or wants to use.
• Attends Academic Aide meetings when required to gain and share information.

Personal Support for a student with a disability

• Establishes appropriate responses to learner-initiated interactions.
• Promotes an atmosphere of respect for adult learners.
• May be involved with the personal daily living tasks including managing seizure protocol, behavioral complexities and other daily living needs.

Assists learners with mobility barriers in the classroom and on campusJob RequirementsMinimum Qualifications

• Diploma in a related field
• 2 years of related experience
• Ability to work independently applying critical thinking skills and problem solving
• Able to read, speak and write English fluently
• Ability to be aware of the individual’s physical, social environments, take action to minimize risks and maximize participation/inclusion, and refer more complex situations to more experienced resources where appropriate
• Ability to produce clear, legible and succinct notes from lectures
• An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered

Preferred Qualifications

• Training or experience in working with persons with disabilities is preferred
• Experience in health care preferred (such as Health Care Aid, recent PN graduate)
• Experience working with clients who have disabilities, behavioral issues or clients who are neurodivergent (such as ADHD, autism, or a learning disability)
• A calm demeanor, as well as a positive attitude and belief that persons with disabilities have the right and responsibility to define and pursue their life choices and pursue active participation and involvement in the community
• Knowledge of disability related barriers faced by adult learners
• Demonstrated organizational skills and initiative
• Knowledge of adaptive technology is an asset
• Ability to demonstrate appropriate responses to learner-initiated interactions
• Ability to utilize current technologies required by the learner
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word
