We currently have a Regular Full-Time opportunity for a Accommodation Coordinator on our Patient Accounts Unit at our Bayview Campus.Hours of Work:Weekdays & Weekends: Days; 8hrs; As per scheduleStatutory HolidaysThe Patient Accounts team of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre’s Finance department has an immediate opening for an Accommodation Coordinator. This position is a full time (37.5 hours per week) permanent position. Standard hours of work are day shifts 5 days per week (Sunday through Thursday).Patient Accounts is a high-volume, fast paced department responsible for the billing and collections of all revenue for the Hospital. Working with two other Accommodation Coordinators, this role will share the responsibility of ensuring revenue relating to private and semi-private room accommodations is maximized, along with ensuring that care provided to all non-OHIP patients is billed and collected in a timely manner according to Hospital policies.Summary of DutiesMaximize revenue for private and semi-private room accommodations (preferred accommodation):Visit patient care units and the Emergency department to obtain financial and insurance information from patients, patient family members, Patient Administrative Associates (PAAs), Patient Care Managers (PCMs) and social workers as necessary to facilitate the billing and collections process and resolve any patient billing issues;Obtain signatures from patients on Responsibility for Payment forms;Promote patient sign-up for preferred accommodation by clearly explaining accommodation options and the billing rate for each option;Review patient admission information and identify and correct data discrepancies which impact patient billing;Update Patient Care and Healthcare Revenue Management (HRCM) systems for patient accounts as required;Educate and work closely with hospital staff on preferred accommodation procedures;Proactively seek opportunities to increase preferred accommodation revenues through process improvement and other initiatives; andOther duties as required.Ensure services provided to all non-OHIP patients are billed and collected in a timely manner by:Interviewing patients to determine their legal status (visitor, permanent resident etc.) and financial ability to pay for medical services provided;Obtain copies of legal documents validating legal status and obtain signatures from patients on Responsibility for Payment and other required forms;Contact insurance providers when necessary to obtain or validate insurance policy coverage;Performing collection activities to mitigate risk of delinquent accounts such asExplaining billing procedures and feesRequesting and collecting depositsEnsuring diligent collection of all required billing documentationEducate, communicate and work closely with hospital staff on the requirements to accept non-OHIP patients; andOther duties as requiredQualifications/SkillsIn order to succeed in this role, the successful candidate must possess the following required and preferred qualifications and skills:RequiredCompletion of a degree or diploma program in Business Administration or equivalent;Minimum 3 years sales or collection experience in a client-centered service industry;Strong written and verbal customer relations and negotiation skills;Ability to deal directly with patients and families with sensitivity, patience and discretion;Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks and meet competing demands in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment;Knowledge of MS Office suite of products (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.), along with strong and accurate typing skills;Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment;Demonstrated satisfactory job performance and attendance; andCommitment to the required hours of work (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week).
