Nelson is redefining education and making a positive impact on the way knowledge is acquired and shared by creating the possible, one learner at a time.About the RoleNelson Education is seeking an Accountant (intermediate) to join our team. The successful incumbent in this role will report to the Senior Manager, Assistant Controller. This role requires a strong understanding of month-end close processes, along with expertise in accounting entries and advanced to intermediate Excel skills. The accountant will play a crucial role in financial reporting process, actively participate in the 5-day close process. Additionally, the Accountant will be involved with upcoming projects such as data migration, process re-engineering, and documentation. We are looking for a candidate who is eager to learn, willing to dive into various tasks, and demonstrate enthusiasm for their work. The role offers a range of opportunities, with responsibilities varying from simple to complex tasks.Key Accountabilities

  • Perform month-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting entries and records.
  • Participate in upcoming projects, including data migration, process re-engineering, and documentation.
  • Work closely with NetSuite project team and IT department to streamline accounting processes and systems.
  • Utilize advanced Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and financial modeling.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations based on findings.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of industry best practices, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively contribute to the team’s success and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and projects based on business needs.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, college diploma or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • CPA or relevant professional certification is a plus.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably with exposure to month-end close processes.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, data analysis, and pivot tables
  • Experience with NetSuite or other ERP system is highly desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges.
  • Proactive and self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
