The Investment Operations team is responsible for supporting the investment groups in transacting in global markets and jurisdictions and managing the middle office functions critical to the life cycle events of various investment products resident in the portfolio.The Analyst plays a key role in middle office workflows including analyzing derivative product requirements across various markets, on-boarding and managing counterparties, vendors and new products as well as life cycle events as it relates to alternative investments. Product life cycle events include contract settlements, income entitlement, credit events, valuation practices and fee and margin calculation requirements . Product types include exchange traded derivatives, OTC derivatives, and foreign exchange contracts, with additional exposure to external manager programs, funds and private loans.RESPONSIBILITIESThe Analyst will be assigned a combination of the below activities as required:Responsible for the book of record for alternative investment transactions to ensure trade settlement, cash entitlements and forecasting, asset exposure reporting, performance measurement, reconciliations and general ledger purposes are complete and accurate.Accountable for accurate and timely confirmation and settlement of derivatives investment transactions by identifying and resolving discrepancies with the traders and brokers. Co-ordinate variation and initial margin movements and ensure timely and accurate settlement.Review daily verifications between book of record and trading system for positions and transactions. Perform a variety of control checks between OMERS and counterparty records as it relates to holdings, transactions and valuations for ETD, OTC and CCP derivatives. Analyze and resolve all issues on a timely basis.Complete all portfolio and market opening requests including external party on-boarding requirements. Oversee all the ongoing market maintenance requirements for the products invested in.Manage applicable trade activity to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements such as those stipulated by the ISDA/CSA agreements.Prepare management reports on subject matters relating to alternative investments including assets, income, cash flows, transaction costs and compliance monitoring. Highlight and explain any outliers and provide explanations as needed.Responsible for daily, monthly and annual cycles including internal trading, reporting and accounting requirements, as well as industry market timelines associated with products and jurisdictions.Identify, recommend and assist in implementing processes/controls/efficiency improvements including automation of current processes. Responsible for developing documentation to support changes proposed.Maintain up to date knowledge of OMERS policies regarding sub delegation of investment authority, signing authorities, valuations and third-party agreements (Trading Agreements, ISDA/CSA, Clearing Broker, and Fund Agreements) and apply to daily activities to ensure compliance.Enhance and update existing desk documentation of policy and procedures as it relates to areas of responsibility. Assist in developing new documentation as required.Maintain strong understanding of investment products and customer needs in order to respond quickly and accurately to questions and problems that arise.Provide inputs and information associated for audits and ensure completeness and accuracy.Foster effective working relationships inclusive of the other teams within Capital Market Finance (CMF), the investment division, OMERS investment entities, counterparties, prime brokers, custodian and auditors as appropriate.Participate in special projects as required.QUALIFICATIONSUniversity degree in finance or other applicable field.Working towards a professional designation including CFA and CPA. Relevant industry courses will be an asset.Minimum 5 years of experience in investment operations with comprehensive operational knowledge of derivatives instruments and hedge funds.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to deal with all levels within the organization and external contacts. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external partners.Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet deadlines. Needs to be flexible.Detail oriented and demonstrated aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis and problem solving.Exposure to investment accounting, reporting and audit control practices.Proficient in Excel and Word. Investment accounting systems experience is required. Exposure to Calypso, Charles River Development (CRD) and Bloomberg would be an asset.Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision.
