Anesthesia Assistant Sponsorship Opportunity – Permanent Full Time – Professional PracticeOverview:We currently have a Permanent Full Time opportunity for an Anesthesia Assistant Sponsorship in the Professional Practice Department at the Michael Garron Hospital.Hours of Work:Days, Evenings, Nights; and WeekendsSummary of DutiesMichael Garron Hospital a division of the Toronto East Health Network is offering to sponsor a candidate who is interested in completing an accredited Anesthesia Assistant Program (The Program) with The Michener Institution of Education. All tuition costs will be paid by Michael Garron Hospital. The course will commence January 2023 and will continue through summer/fall 2023.This is unique opportunity to enhance your skills and start your practice as an Anesthesia Assistant.The candidate selected to participate in The Program will be provided with an offer of full-time employment as a Respiratory Therapist in the Professional Practice Department. In consideration of the Hospital paying your tuition costs, upon completion the Program, you agree to give the Hospital a minimum of two-years working commitment within the Professional Practice Department.Qualifications/Skills

  • Current license with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario.
  • 2 years or full-time equivalent ( >4000 hours) of critical care experience within the past 4 years
  • Graduate of an accredited program for Respiratory Therapy.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP are an asset.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills as they relate to patient care.
  • Ability to work in an inter-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Delivers care with patient focused approach.
  • Competent in variety of computer skills including electronic medical record documentation.
Accountabilities:
  • Care and management of mechanically ventilated patients in accordance with guidelines and policies.
  • Experience in neonatal and paediatric respiratory care an asset.
  • Experience in pulmonary function testing an asset.
  • Airway management including intubation.
  • Administration of medication.
  • Tracheostomy management.
  • Assessment and intervention for patients deemed high risk for respiratory failure.
  • Arterial punctures and blood withdrawal from arterial lines.
  • Assisting with bronchoscopies.
  • Intra and Inter-transport of high risk patients .
  • Arterial line insertion.
  • Neonatal management including neonatal resuscitation at high risk deliveries (establishing airway, breathing and circulation), mechanical ventilation, Nasal CPAP, oxygen therapy and assistance of airway management.
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and families.
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
