This appointment is for a 5-year term, renewable once. The effective date of this appointment is tentatively January 2022.We seek a surgeon, with clear record of success as leader, ability to work in teams and foster collaboration. The successful candidate will have record of success achieving objectives through process and consensus building. He/she will be responsible for clinical excellence and advancing clinical care, academic productivity, fostering a collegial environment and supportive educational climate within the Division. The Division Head will promote clinical and academic collaborations across Unity Health. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. We are looking for a visionary and engaging individual that embodies our organizational values and demonstrates strong leadership attributes through their collaboration with all disciplines.The Division of Cardiac Surgery consists of five (5) full-time cardiac surgeons, with wide ranging academic interests including basic biomedical research, clinical research including multicenter clinical trials, education and curriculum development and cardiovascular innovations. Clinically, we perform the full range of cardiac operations, including coronary bypass grafting surgery with arterial conduits, valve replacement and valve repair surgery (including minimally invasive), pericardial surgery, aortic surgery including hybrid operations and other open heart operations. The Division values clinical excellence and places an emphasis on quality improvement and best patient outcomes. We have an excellent collaborative relationship with the Divisions of Cardiology and Vascular Surgery (within the Heart & Vascular program) who we consider valuable partners in managing our patients with cardiovascular diseases.The Division of Cardiac Surgery is one of the leading structural heart centres in Ontario, with more than 300 minimally-invasive structural heart procedures, and growing quickly. It is leading the way with one of the country’s first robotic surgery programs and conducted more than 1,200 cardiovascular surgeries per year. The Division includes a 12-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and 10-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.Salary will be between the range of $400,000 - $550,000 as well as commensurate with qualifications and experience.
