Candidates must currently hold or be eligible for a University of Toronto full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The effective date for this appointment would be September 1, 2021.We seek a full-time faculty general surgeon with fellowship training in trauma surgery. The successful candidate will fulfill an important educational role related to curriculum development, simulation, and crisis resource management and is expected to spend up to 50% of their time with this as their focus. The successful candidate will possess a strong track record and graduate level training in medical education. Evidence of excellence in teaching is required.Clinically, the successful candidate will join an academic group providing comprehensive trauma care spanning the entire continuum, ranging from resuscitation, operative care, acute care in the ICU and ward, to rehabilitation and recovery. Our centre includes a strong resident and fellowship training program. There will be no opportunity for an elective surgical practice given the specific focus of this role.The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and for certification with the Royal College of Physicians, Surgeons of Canada and licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.The Tory Regional Trauma Centre is Canada’s largest trauma centre and fulfills a critical role in the region, serving all of South Central Ontario and providing learning opportunities for wide spectrum of trainees across several surgical specialties. The Centre is also a trauma training facility for the Canadian Forces and so candidates with experience in combat environments would be preferred.Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is one of Canada’s leading clinical and research hospitals. Sunnybrook is a fully affiliated academic health sciences facility of the University of Toronto and home to one of the Universities three academies for undergraduate education.
