The anticipated start date is April 1, 2023 or as mutually agreed upon. This appointment is for a five-year term renewable upon successful review.St. Michael’s Hospital is a leading academic health science centre, fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. St. Michael’s Hospital along with St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Providence Healthcare forms Unity Health Toronto, a network of Catholic Healthcare institutions. Critical care and trauma, heart disease, neurosurgery, and care of the homeless are among some of St. Michael’s recognized areas of expertise. Annually St. Michael’s hosts approximately 768,000 ambulatory visits, and cares for more than 25,000 inpatients in over 450 beds. More than 16,500 surgeries are performed and the critically ill are treated in 63 ventilator beds in four separate intensive care units.The Department of Medical Imaging of St. Michaels Hospital has 9 ultrasound units, 3 multi-detector CT scanners, and 6 MRI scanners (two 3.0 Tesla, two 1.5 Tesla and two, new 0.064 Tesla Portable head scanners). World-class minimally invasive, image-guided treatments are provided in the department’s newly renovated interventional radiology suite that houses 3 single plane and 1 biplane angiography platforms with plans and prepared space to add a second biplane platform in the future. The suite also includes a 5-bed recovery area, an ultrasound procedure room, and world-leading robotics and advanced simulation tools to aid in pre-procedural planning and training.PET-CT for cardiac, oncologic, inflammatory, and neurodegenerative applications has been procured and is anticipated to be operational in the department in 2023. Renovations are currently underway to add an imaging hub in the emergency department that will include new CT, X-ray, and ultrasound modalities.There are over 50 radiology residents from the University of Toronto who rotate through the department. In addition to our dedicated MRI Research Centre, the department pursues internationally recognized research work in Medical Imaging artificial intelligence through a recently funded Research Chair in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence. Unity Health Toronto houses the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Keenan Research Centre that provides world-class research support and affords many opportunities for radiologists to engage in collaborative translational research.St. Michael’s seeks an outstanding leader with strong clinical, academic, administrative, and interpersonal skills who as Chief will enhance the hospital’s quality of care agenda and actively promote academic development. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to faculty development, interprofessional practice, and the promotion of partnerships, and will have established a strong academic track record. He/she will hold a fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario, and should be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at the University of Toronto.
