Nelson is redefining education and making a positive impact on the way knowledge is acquired and shared by creating the possible, one learner at a time.About the RoleAs a market-facing leader on the Product Solutions team, reporting to the Executive Director Product Solution, the Associate Publisher is passionate about education and will work with a dynamic team to help create innovative learning solutions for use in classrooms across Canada. As Associate Publisher, you are responsible in collaboration with the Publisher, Program Specialist and Classroom Success Team (CXT) for the identification, conceptualization, validation, and strategic development of new learning resources and educational solutions across the Math and Science portfolio. The Associate Publisher will also participate in costing new projects, collaborating on defining the instructional design, and support the Publisher to identify and develop new authors, reviewers, subject matter experts, and thought leaders in the subject area. The role will involve conducting market research internally and externally to deeply understand customer needs and shifts in curriculum and pedagogy to develop highly valued Edwin learning resources that grow and retain our customer base. We are looking for a candidate who is results-oriented, strategic problem-solver, innovator, creative thinker, great project manager and has strong interpersonal and communication skills both within a team and cross team environment, as well as with external stakeholders.Key Accountabilities In close collaboration with the Executive Director, Product Solutions and Publisher, you will execute:

  • Comprehensive Market Research and Product Conceptualization (20%): In collaboration with members of our classroom success team, the associate publisher will utilize a range of research tools (e.g., field calls, focus groups, surveys, concept or prototype reviews, product testing, industry best practice review, user data, CXT market feedback, classroom observation, attending subject area conferences) to support the Publisher with identification and validation of potential new resource opportunities, customer curriculum interpretation, and pedagogical and instructional best practices to drive business growth and retention.
  • Business Case Developmentamp; Project Costing (5%): With support from the Publisher, identify project specifications and collaborate with Content/Production Services for the development of plate budget and manufacturing quotes; work with Publisher to develop business case as required for new opportunities.
  • Product-in-Development Leadership (35%):
  • In collaboration with the Publisher and Program Specialist, leveraging a Service-led approach to product development, co-lead the implementation of program and classroom instructional design, authoring, and reviewing. Consult with CXT and Content/Production Services as required to complete the creation of new learning resources. Throughout the product development build (ideation to market release) look for opportunities to optimize and refine stages of product creation, and reuse or modify existing learning resources to accelerate time to market.
  • Author/Reviewer/Subject Matter Expert Acquisition and Relationship Management (30%): In collaboration with sales, CXT, to help identify, sign, manage and cultivate key authors, reviewers, subject matter experts, key customer influencers and thought leaders for projects to meet learning resource expectations of customers while ensuring optimal product positioning in market.
  • Market Launch Initiatives (10%): In collaboration with the Publisher, Program Specialist, CXT and Product Marketing Manager develop product related supports (i.e.. Key learning resource benefits, instructional overview, testimonials from reviewers or authors, ways to position resources, resource FAQ’s, resource implementation tools and presentations, sales training material, etc.) for market-facing initiatives.

  • University degree is required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in K-12 educational Ed-Tech market with experience working directly with content creators.
  • K-12 teaching experience an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and project management experience an asset.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with strong understanding of working within a matrix to solve problems.
  • Results-oriented, strategic problem-solver, innovator, creative thinker and has strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Current understanding and knowledge of digital technologies, learning tools, and other web and multi-media applications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Canadian K–12 landscape, including various Canadian curricula, effective instructional practices, and emerging educational trends and developments.
  • Ability to clearly synthesize and communicate market needs and trends.
  • Ability to quickly separate opportunity from ambiguity and to filter market ‘noise.’
  • Exceptional relationship management skills including recruiting, managing, and mentoring internal and external authors, reviewers, editors, subject matter experts, and digital content developers.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and risk-mitigation skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work in a short period of time, handle multiple priorities simultaneously and operate in a demanding work environment is important.
