Job Description

Join our team in our mission to continue to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of Business Manager.The Laboratory Medicine and Medical Imaging Program Quality and Performance Business Manager is responsible for a variety of complex activities related to program performance monitoring, reporting and advancement. The Quality and Performance Business Manager reports directly to the Labs and Imaging Senior Director and supports the development of business plans and quality projects to advance the program goals and objectives.The primary responsibilities of the Business Manager, Clinical Programs include:

  • Working collaboratively with the Senior Director and Managers to manage the business, financial and selected operational aspects of the portfolio with a focus on quality projects, business and financials; enabling capture and synthesis of data to create routine or ad hoc reports typically for evaluation and use by Managers and/or Director;
  • Working collaboratively with the Director and Managers to analyze and optimize processes and workflow in key areas for projects defined in the annual quarterly performance objectives; performing other responsibilities, as required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Forecasts and monitors financial and operating needs of the portfolio:
    • Prepares functional centre annual operational and capital budgets to meet established targets for final review/approval of Managers/Director;
    • Prepares monthly and quarterly expense/revenue to budget analysis/reports for review by Managers and Director, including: trending/ analysis, when required of key supplies, expenses or revenue;
  • Forecasts corporate operating needs with respect to budgets, to enable the Department to advise the Finance Department regarding:
    • Anticipated year over year adjustment due to inflation, contract changes, approved utilization/formulary change, including documenting assumptions and known facts;
    • Allocation of annual percentage adjustment on an individual functional unit basis;
  • Performs analysis of quarterly departmental supplies utilization report, to identify trends or areas in need of further therapeutic exploration, including: subgroup analysis and trending aspects;
  • Supports and validates key charges, databases and reports.
  • Identifies opportunities for enhancing revenues/recoveries for reducing expenses;
  • Conducts periodic external scanning and benchmarking activities for select portfolio functions or programs, as identified;
  • Assists in the development, execution and evaluation of Requests for Proposals (RFP’s), special projects, department improvement initiatives, etc.;
  • Assists with selected operational responsibilities of the Program Director, e.g., coordination of reports, documents, performance evaluations or other similar tasks.
  • Leads or supports database design and data access, to support the business and financial goals/objectives of the portfolio;
  • Collates and prepares Quarterly Performance Review reports for the Director;
  • Collates monthly and annual workload reports for Managers and Director;
  • Creates, collates and prepares reports quarterly, or as required, on key measures, as defined in the annual or quarterly performance objectives;
    • Human resources/staff related e.g., hours by functional centre, staff group for sick, vacation, overtime;
    • Equipment related e.g., downtime reports;
    • Productivity related e.g., worked hours;
  • Supports analysis of financial impact of changes to supplies or headcount for the department
  • Collaborates on projects to document and analyze workflow in key areas, e.g. procurement, inventory control, production of specified product types, packaging, etc.;
  • Collaborates with and/or supports the Manager and other relevant individuals, to optimize workflow and processes to achieve best practice and performance targets;
  • Devises, collates and reports metrics to monitor and sustain process improvements;
  • Collaborates with and/or support the Manager and other relevant individuals, to develop or revise standard operating procedures to support and sustain optimized processes.
  • Manages IQMH Lab Licensing submissions
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or other related program required; College Diploma at a minimum from a recognized educational institution in a relevant field e.g., Business Administration, etc., with expertise in project and supply chain management, database development and management required;
  • Eight (8) years relevant experience in a healthcare environment or equivalent with three (3) years of relevant Hospital experience required; experience working in a teaching Hospital environment is preferred;
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of health care systems in general and specifically Hospital practices in procurement, inventory control, etc.;
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and application of:
    • LEAN or related methodologies to support process improvement;
    • Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Access;
    • Databases and data modeling tools;
    • Request for proposals, proposals, report writing;
    • Electronic report writing an asset;
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, decision making and time management skills with demonstrated ability to meet and manage competing deadlines required;
  • Strong team, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills required.
