The position is to be based in one of the following Ontario office locations - Toronto, Kitchener, Guelph, Oakville or Hamilton. Remote or flexible work arrangements will also be considered.We are looking for Certified Arborist to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals.   • Manage and coordinate programs and technical studies for the natural environment and tree management components of a variety of projects.
  • Act as a Technical Advisor to clients and provide oversight to project team members including other arborists, biologists, natural scientists, technologists and technical support staff.
  • Prepare reports related to tree inventory and protection plans, tree appraisals, woodland management, urban forest strategic planning and policy development, ecological systems and environmental monitoring on various sites, as required.
  • Develop and implement field work programs, including tree inventory and condition assessments, tree risk assessment, woodland inventory and health assessments, vegetation and wildlife habitat surveys, and collection and compilation of field data.
  • Collaborate with Dillon’s Spatial Information Management team for digital data collection programs and tree/woodland data management.
  • Assist in the development of environmental protection plans, tree by-law permits, environmental permits, and other environmental compliance documentation.
  • Assist with the implementation of tree protection and management plans on construction sites, including coordination with clients, contractors, environmental monitors and regulatory agencies.
  • Support stakeholder and regulator engagement.
Business Development (10%)
  • Prepare and support the preparation of project proposals and contribute to client relationships and business development activities.
  • Liaise with public and private sector clients, government review and approval agencies, sub-consultants and community representatives.
  • Undertake travel, as required.
Learning & Development (3%)
  • A commitment to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.
Qualifications:What you will need to succeed
  • An undergraduate degree in forestry or urban forestry, biology, ecology or a related environmental sciences field and/or an urban forestry technician diploma.
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Registered Professional Forester designation in Ontario and/or Butternut Health Assessment certification and/or ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification would be considered an asset.
Experience:
  • At least 5 years’ related work experience with the responsibilities noted above; 7 – 10 years is preferred.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of field inventory and survey programs using digital data collection and management, and in the preparation of arborist reports and tree inventory and protection plans.
  • Prior Project Management experience an asset.
  • Experience with municipal operations tree planting and maintenance plans, integrated pest management assessments, forest health assessments, private and municipal woodland management plans, applied forest ecology and silviculture assessments, botanical inventory surveys, Environmental Assessments, and environmental impact studies would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant municipal, provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies, municipal forest conservation by-laws, urban design and urban forest management objectives, principles, strategies and treatment specifications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high quality client service.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proven professional work experience in environmental consulting, including project management.
  • Proficiency in project proposal preparation and presentations.
  • Strong oral and written communication, critical thinking, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
