Job Description

The principle function of this role is to provide direct care and supervision to patients and their families in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program within the framework of a treatment plan formulated by a multi-disciplinary team. We are looking for individuals who are interested in providing behavioural management within an effective environment.Qualifications include:

  • Youth Counsellor Diploma.
  • Membership in good standing in OACYC preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with emotionally disturbed adolescents and their families, together with knowledge of psychiatric disorders.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mental health services including case management and crisis management for children and adolescents preferred.
  • Work experience in a hospital setting within the inpatient unit, outpatient program or the emergency room is considered an asset.
  • Experience in developing, organizing and facilitating psycho-educational groups.
  • Ability to prioritize and make decisions affecting patient care.
  • Ability to take initiative and leadership, as appropriate.
  • Practice in a manner consistent with the philosophy of continuous quality improvement.
  • Remain abreast of current literature and changing practice patterns.
  • Ability to work effectively and co-operatively with a variety of professionals and patients.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Assumes responsibility for aspects of practice including issues related to productivity and utilization.
  • Satisfactory attendance record.
