TRSM is also home to 15 innovative research centres, institutes and labs www.ryerson.ca/tedrogersschoolThe Diversity InstituteThe Ted Rogers School of Managements Diversity Institute at Ryerson University was founded in 1999 by Dr. Wendy Cukier with the aim of undertaking research on diversity in the workplace to improve practices in organizations. The Diversity Institute works with organizations to develop customized strategies, programming, and resources to promote new, interdisciplinary knowledge and practice about diversity with respect to gender, race/ethnicity, Indigenous peoples, abilities, and sexual orientation. It collaborates with industry, government, not-for-profits, and academics to:

  • Research existing practices and evaluate programs;
  • Explore barriers to full participation in the workplace;
  • Develop fact-based policies and programs to help organizations attract, motivate and develop, underrepresented groups; and
  • Provide customized training to support the development of diversity strategies.
  • Using an ecological model of change, the Diversity Institute is driving social innovation across sectors using an action-oriented, evidence-based approach to advance knowledge of the complex barriers faced by underrepresented groups, to lead practices that effect change, and produce concrete results.
The OpportunityThe Communications Assistant (Bilingual) provides exemplary client service to engage and promote to the community. This role is responsible for providing professional knowledge and information about the program(s) and ensures messaging is on-brand and adheres to Ryerson’s brand and style guidelines as well as industry and regulatory standards. In addition, this position collects and reviews metrics to provide suggestions to management on enhancements to digital content delivery. The Communications Assistant also develops communications and correspondence; posts and monitors a variety of social media accounts under direction of senior level staff and/or management.QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma program in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or in a related field;
  • A minimum of 2 years working with a large variety of media platforms in a professional capacity;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Bilingualism in English and French is required.
  • Experience in composing professional correspondence and business communications including presentations, web copy, speeches/speaking notes, blog posts, social media content, news releases, etc.
  • Strong communication skills; digital communications capacity, judgment and demonstrated research, writing and editing skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various social media and communications channels/platforms; including but not limited to MailChimp, Zoom, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram;
  • Knowledge of communication principles and practice, priorities and objectives related to digital communications and the complexities of writing, editing and overseeing social media content in a busy environment;
  • Strong computer literacy with experience using with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. MS Office, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Google applications (e.g. Google Docs, Sheets).;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, content and priorities.
